I have work with Autocad, Rhino, Alias, Inventor fusión, Cura, and never have an issue with the scale, the imported model resulted in same mesurements. I think the problem is with fusión 360.

when I create a box of 30x30x30 mm or any other object, when I exported to stl and open it becomes a 300x300x300 mm box. This happens with various models.

Hi,

Thanks, this doesn't sound as an acceptable solution, I have worked in Rhino, Autocad, Inventor fusión, Alias design, and didn't have any problem with stl units, it seems to me that the problem is with Fusión. I am working in mm units the export should result in same units.

Thanks.

Fernando.

Created a Body with 30 x 30 x30 mm.

Exported of stl file from fusion.

Imported the stl file in Inventor.

STL files are unitless, fusion will export size for size so if you are working in mm a 30mm box will export as 30 units. If you reimport into Fusion using InsertMesh it will come back in as 30mm but if you import through the Data panel it will be imported as CM so you will end up with 30cm or 300mm. So just use Import Mesh of if you're using a different program set the import to match the units in Fusion or set the units in Fusion to match the other program before export.

@dustinpBJ8VA The problem is you are working in inches and after you import into the viewer you change the units so it's scaled. You can see when it's opened it is one unit and the viewer scales it from 1 meter to feet and inches. Don't know why the viewer is defaulting to meters, seems an odd unit for STL.

The workaround is either set the viewer to inches as the default or before exporting change the document units temporarily to meters, export then change back. The problem is totally down to the viewer and not Fusion.

Did you read what I said? The viewer is the problem, it is defaulting to meters. Don't know why the viewer is defaulting to meters as no one would be working in meters for an stl. What happens if you download any of the millions of STLs out there for 3d printing, pretty much every slicer out there expects an STL in mm.

If exporting to that viewer is so important to you, before export change the document units to METERS like i said in my last post.
