Making a 3d print includes unwanted items in the export

With the latest update of fusion it'll export all items when clicking on the bodies folder to export including a hidden canvas. This previously didn't happen. Let me know if I need to further explain or if anyone has any work arounds for this.

Hey @jmicgavin,

When I selected the body folder it exports only what bodies are visible - but what I don't like is that it exports bodies not found in that folder.

Can you upload a screencast of what you are seeing?

For our process we load a sketch into the scene to model from. That's the rectangle you see around the egg.

After hiding the Canvases folder and only selecting the Bodies folder to export everything is still loaded into zbrush, evident in the 2nd screenshot.

Hey @jmicgavin,

Never mind on sharing the link. I took another look at it and was able to reproduce the issue. The canvas frame shows up when exported.

I'll log it with the team.

Having the same issue and unfortunately, we've exported nearly 70 STL's before we realized this was happening.

We did find that if the visibility of the individual canvas was off, it didn't get exported with the STL. So rather than using the Canvas folder to control visibility of canvases, we just control the individual canvas visibility.

Easy enough to work around, but annoying the visibility isn't inherited. Looking forward to a fix.

We are having this same issue and it started when I updated fusion last week. Is this being worked on? I have a ton of projects to work on and I'm totally stuck here.

Hi all,

This is currently being investigated by the team.

In the meantime I've tested a few workarounds and they are ordered as most simple to more involved as follows:

Force them into a component

Move all the bodies for STL save in a component or sub component that does not contain the canvas - leaving the canvas at the root level.
Export/save-as/3dprint the component level and the should be clean

Save-as

Save-as the file and remove the canvas from the resulting file

Edit the STL

Export to STL
Create a new design
Insert the STL
Edit the resulting mesh
Delete the null faces
Rexport the mesh as STL

It should then be clean of the canvas.

Selecting a single body

Save-as STL on each body
Compile them in cura -or-
Reinsert them in Fusion to compline the STLs and re-save-as STL.

What also works is deleting the canvas before exporting as STL

Edit the STL
Export to STL
Create a new design
Insert the STL
Edit the resulting mesh
Delete the null faces
Rexport the mesh as STL

This solution works great for already exported STL's. Thank you!

For new exports, as long as I turn off visibility for the individual canvas (not the folder), the STL export works as expected with no canvas attached.
