Hi Tom,

Thanks for the update. I will check with the team on this. I think the requirement to manually update the property for the xref'd component is more of a workaround than an expected (or desirable) workflow. In my test the file rename results in the new name propagating downstream to the Properties of the component, the name of that component in both the browser for the parent design and the drawing, but just not the parts list.

This seems like a bug to me, but in the meantime I'm glad you were able to get the correct info in your parts list.

Thanks,
Chris

After changing the name of a component file, the table that references it in an assembly drawing will not update. Though the component file name was changed, it's revision rolled, and the assembly file also updated to the current configuration & saved, the name field data used in the table is still pulling in the original value.

The new name displays in the component tree in the assembly and its drawing & at the correct revision, but these names are not in sync with the table data. Creating a new table also pulls in the older value. Even creating a new assembly drawing with a new table pulls in the old value. It seems like some field in the component file itself is not getting updated when the file name is changed.

Hmm i'm not seeing this behavior. Are you doing a get latest on the drawing? It should revise the name and the browser list of components as well as the table.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for reporting this, it looks like for some reason the table is not updating as expected, even after drawing re-open.

In my test of a renamed xref'd component, I was able to force a Parts List update by either:

1. Design change (even just toggling a component off/on) > Save in the design > Get Latest in the drawing,

or easier,

2. Toggle off/on (either the visibility lightbulb or the checkbox) a component in the drawing browser.

Please let me know if that works for you.

Thanks,
Chris

Get Latest was the very first thing I tried, naturally.

I've also tried rolling the save-version of the detail part, assembly, and drawing

I've also tried creating a new table

I've even tried creating a new drawing with new table from the assembly

I just now tried toggling the part on/off so its table entry was re-created

The part number field is not being overwritten by the file name change, wherever it's being drawn from. The fact it's persistent across even new drawings tells me the problem attribute is likely in the detail part itself. Is there a way for an end-user to view (or better yet edit) the attributes for a part file?

Hi Tom,

I'm not sure why the steps didn't work for you, we may have a slightly different scenario. If you open the xref'd component file, right-click the top browser node and open Properties, you'll see Part Number and Description are editable fields. The Part number should default to the file name. If you edit this here, re-save the component file, Get Latest in the design (you may need to trigger this by some action, just changing this property may not do it), then Get Latest in the drawing, does that update the table?

For a non-xref situation, the drawing parts list table is populated by the properties of the individual components in the parent design. I will need to dig a little deeper and see if we are actually looking at a bug here.

Thanks,

Changing that field as you described in the component file seems to have done the trick. Knowing where to find those fields to edit was the real trick, since right clicking the file in the project folder or the part in the assembly file doesn't give the option.

It does seem needlessly convoluted, though, to have to change the file name (the name you see every where) and then manually change the actual part number, which appears to only be referenced or displayed by the spreadsheets. I suppose it makes some sense for the folks that let Fusion name their files for them (with the version number appended), but want the referenced part number/description info to stay consistent across all the changes.

Maybe add the option to flow a file name change to the part number or description fields when changing it?
