Hi @s.david.baxter

Thanks for posting. Hopefully the graphic driver update will help - out-of-date graphics drivers can often be the cause of many performance issues in Fusion 360. Please confirm if this helps.

If it started recently, I'd try a clean uninstall/reinstall of Fusion to see if it helps.

Are you working on a proxy server? If not, we usually see the performance issues being caused by Fusion looking for a proxy that does not exist, so I wouldn't worry too much about the auto-detect.

The key with the steps you mentioned is to test a different network - are you working on a desktop or laptop computer? Again, the key here is just to test out a different network to confirm if the problems are due to the specific network.

Hi @s.david.baxter

Thanks for posting. While poor internet connections can cause performance issues in Fusion 360, working entirely in offline mode can trigger its own issues. Fusion will also force you to get online every two weeks to check your login credentials.

With regard to network connectivity, I would recommend working through our collection of articles on setting up for use with Fusion.

What sort of performance issues are you experiencing? If you can provide details on any specific behaviors we may be able to provide more thoughts. My first recommendation would be to check that your graphics drivers are fully up to date.

Hopefully this helps! If you continue to see problems and believe it is due to the network, we should be able to confirm with your diagnostic logs.

Thanks for the response. This graphics diagnostic won't tell us a lot about the problems you are experiencing in Fusion, but they did show that you may not be using the most recent graphics drivers. I'd recommend updating at this site.

If you continue to see problems, please send over the log files as described in my previous post and confirm that your network is set up properly for use with Fusion 360.

As suggested I have updated the graphics driver, it was out of date. I
have also attached the log file. I have looked at the network
configuration which suggests you go to a coffee shop and login on a
different computer in order to change the Fusion network configuration "

1. Take note of the Local Area Network (LAN) settings and capture the
information in this dialog (especially any proxy server information)
2. Install and launch Fusion from a location not using a proxy server
(e.g. home, coffee shop, etc.) "

I don't have an extra compute that I can do this with, is there another
suggestion? I did notice when going through the LAN setting "automatically
detect proxy server" was set to OFF, I have now set it to on and will see
what the difference is.

Good Morning Paul. I will do a reinstall later today and see what
happens. I have reattached the log file. Not sure if it helps but, here is
the copy of the Graphics Diagnostics.

[GPU Information]
GPU Device: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745
GPU RAM: 4096 MB
GPU Driver API: DirectX 11.0
GPU Driver Version:
W\S.ystem32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_desktop_ref4i.inf_amd64_1d5beddcd071ab24\nvldumdx.dll,C:\WINDOWS\System32\Dri:24.21.13.9836
GPU Driver Date: Unknown

[Graphics Effects Settings]
Anti Aliasing: Off
Ambient Occlusion: Off
Object Shadow: Off
Ground Shadow: Off
Ground Reflection: Off
Selection Display Style: Simple
Transparency Effect: Better Performance

[Limit effects to optimize performance]
On

I am not using a proxy server, should I?

I am working on a desktop unit so the coffee shop idea probably does not
work for me.

Please let me know if you get the log file this time, it is in zip format
and I will be back to you later today once I have done a reinstall of
fusion.

Have a good day.
Dave

Thanks for the response. I'm still not seeing the logs - would you mind emailing them to paul dot clauss at autodesk dot com?

The proxy server is just a different type of internet setup, used mostly in corporate environments. If you are not using a proxy, you will not need to set one up.

I think we may get a better idea of what is going on here if you could describe the performance issues you've experienced in detail - what problem behavior is occurring. The logs may provide more detail. Does Fusion run more smoothly in offline mode? Hopefully some more detail on the problems you are seeing will help us troubleshoot more effectively?

Paul, I have just completed re-installing Fusion, first thing I noticed is
the graphics are much sharper, kind of like the resolution has increased
because the icons in the file structure browser are smaller and the overall
graphics are sharper. I will be working on the model this afternoon and I
am going to record some response times for the commands that I execute such
as activating a component, mirroring a body, doing a split body etc. I
will report my findings to you when I am finished working later this
afternoon.

As to your question regarding off line/on line performance, I really can't
notice a difference between the two of them, logically I believe that the
off line mode should be faster because it removes the communications aspect
but, honestly I have no idea if more or less resources are used in either
mode. My observation of the task manager would say there is little
difference, maybe you have an opinion on that.

Hold one, your last mail just arrive, going to check.....OK, glad you got
the attachment, maybe that may help. One other thing, I think it is
important to set a "response time expectation", one man's fast is another
man's slow. I am tending to think a large part of the problem is the size
of my model but, there have to be others that have much larger models than
I do.

Will be back to you later with some better detail on performance by command.

Regards
Dave

Hi @s.david.baxter

Thanks for the response and the logs. I'm glad to hear the reinstall helped with the graphics and hope it will improve the lag it seems you've been experiencing.

Setting a standard response time is difficult because the size/complexity of the design and individual hardware setups are variables, but I'm happy to have a look at any problem files if you'd like to share them and report on the performance on my systems.

In my experience, Fusion works at about the same speed and utilizes the same local resources online or offline. I have seen problems with internet connectivity cause notably worse behavior, but I don't think thats what we are seeing after looking through the logs.

In your logs, I noticed quite a few errors when Fusion 360 sent reports to Google Analytics. Disabling Google Analytics in your Preferences (as shown below) may help improve performance.

I'd also be curious if limiting effects for performance helps out.

Paul, been working in the model now for about 15 minutes in on line mode
and performance is much improved. There is no purpose in tracking the
response time by command now because the response is almost instant. I
would like to keep the ticket open for another 24 hours if that is OK. I
will be back to you one way or the other before then. I will also disable
Google Analytics.

Thanks for your help and I will send very large Kudos when I Accept the
solution. You have been a great help.

Until tomorrow
Dave
