Just to clarify, this is intended behavior and has not changed.

Here is the Hole dialog:

There are two workflows, one with and one without a sketch.

The workflow that places holes without sketches works like this:

1. Start the hole command

2. Pick a plane

3. Pick a place to put the hole

Note: that place can include a sketch object, but it is not tied to that point.

The workflow that places holes with sketch references that update works like this:

1. Sketch hole locations

2. Start the hole command

3. Pick a sketch point to initiate sketch located holes. This automatically starts the 'From Sketch' mode of hole placement.

4. Or first pick the 'From Sketch' option in the dialog and then begin to pick sketch points.

You did mention an error using Thru All termination. Can you show an example of that?

Thanks again and please let us know if you have more questions.

Regards,

OK, so the way I typically use the hole tool is as follows:

I draw a sketch with dimensioned points

I hit 'H'

the hole tool opens, I select the box with the 4 dots if it's a hole pattern, then select the points I laid out already

then set the parameters and hit ok

I do it this way because of two reasons. 1) I don't know of a better way and 2) If I update the sketch, the holes move.

July 2018 Update broke this workflow today.

Problems incurred :

1) the holes do not stay referenced to the points

2) the icons at the top are blank, (1 dot and 4 dot)

3) the Thru (ALL) command generates an error and does not allow the hole tool to create holes.

I too have just installed the Fusion 360 update and I cannot replicate the error I think you are describing. I will admit I do not know what you mean by "update the sketch". Anyway, I did a screencast of the process I think you are using so take a look. Please do screencast to show your issue and also attach you model so others can assist you.

I don't have a microphone but I linked a screen cast.

As to what I mean by update the sketch, if I change the dimension in the sketch the hole doesn't follow what it's referenced to.

Something I did notice though while trying to recreate the problem. There are two work flows I follow which I didn't realize until just now.

1) I make the sketch, hit the Hole tool then click the point - This results in what I expect, no problems here

2) I make the sketch, hit the Hole tool then click the surface I want the hole on, then I click the point I want the hole. - This causes the issue where the hole is not linked and I cannot link it no matter what I do.

I've demonstrated both of them in the video

https://autode.sk/2Okv1No

I think you realized your issue's cause in your last post. You must select the Point and not the surface. So you solved your own problem. By the way, I would quite placing points using the line tool as soon as possible. It really confuses the sketch and others. Just use the Point tool and dimension to them. If you must use the Line tool, make the lines construction lines.

"I think you realized your issue's cause in your last post. You must select the Point and not the surface. So you solved your own problem. "

I appreciate your help but this does not solve the issue as it was a non issue before the update. Also, if you look at the picture I posted, the icons disappear still. I was not able to recreate that 100% of the time though. Lastly, my workflow of selecting the face then the point may be "wrong", but it should be correctable and not lock me out of choosing new references.

"By the way, I would quite placing points using the line tool as soon as possible. It really confuses the sketch and others. "

I see no difference between using a sketch and a points. Sketches leave more information on the table than just values. I can tell that 'these 4 holes are a bolt pattern for such and such'. If the pattern tool was more robust, I would use that instead but given that it's not, I'll continue using this method.

Just use the Point tool and dimension to them. If you must use the Line tool, make the lines construction lines.

I typically do, for the demo, I just skipped it.

The problem is because you picked a face first - then adjusted it to the sketch point. As you hovered in your hole settings it was not based on a sketch point. Which means its not linked parametrically to that point.

For what its worth I tested this on my pre-updated computer - 2.0.4285 and it functions the exact same. Selecting the surface before a sketch point forces the hold tool to reference the surface rather than the sketch point. This could have been changed in the hole redesign but that was a few updates back.

Just to clarify, this is intended behavior and has not changed.

Here is the Hole dialog:

There are two workflows, one with and one without a sketch.

The workflow that places holes without sketches works like this:

1. Start the hole command

2. Pick a plane

Looking at your screenshot I think you've done something in your sketch thats recreated to the points. In my screencast I've deleted the points to force the error, this bug has been around for a long time. If the original points are lost you can't select new points, just editing position is fine.
