Well that is a clue. I cannot break the link and export in f3d as Fusion will not let me. I find that I can create a normal sketch in the file I sent you too. Doing it in the original file still creates a skewed version.

It just occurred to me that when I attached the linked file, I had to strengthen it to the grid in the new drawing. I thought' "that's odd" and continued on. I suspect that whatever went wrong, went wrong at that point.

I very much appreciate your help, but this fix looks like it is going to take us a bit down the rabbit hole... I think the most straight forward solution is to simply add this part to the file I was linked to rather than a new part file with the base part linked in.

Every sketch I start shows the grid at an angle to the origin, and the origin and grid not centered. How can I get the grid and origin aligned? This view is of an active Sketch edit.

Can you export a file with this problem and attach? Do you have a component active that's been rotated?

I do not see any component that has been rotated. I only noticed this after I made a sketch and found that it did not line up with already created objects. I had to then rotate the extruded sketch. I have attached the export.

A STP file is no help. Do you have inserted\linked designs stopping you exporting as a f3d? Sketching on a face can give odd orientations as well, what happens when you click look at on the sketch palette? Does the grid align vertical\horizontal?

Sorry about that. That is the first time I have exported and did not know that you needed an f3d file and that a linked drawing would stop that. I deleted the linked drawing and re-exported to f3d.

Deleting the linked drawing produced a slew of red and yellow icons on the timeline -- just to let you know those were not there before the deletion.

Instead of deleting the linked parts can you temporarily break the links and export? Then just undo to get the links back.

Can't see what's caused the problem from the file you attached before. If I create another sketch and select one of the planes from the visible origin it is aligned correctly. Do you remember what you selected to start the sketch.

OK I've found the problem, you selected another sketch rather than a plane. See screencast below.

Looking at your file I have some advice, you should be able to design this without a single move or align. I'm not sure how to help with this as you've gone a long way with the design. You should be able to create components in place and no need to move or create at the origin and use a joint to position. Also you should create sketches then bodies in place using references. In a sketch project references from the body you want to add to then extrude using references for Start and Extent.

Here's a screencast showing why the sketch is rotated.

Thank you. I don't know anything about using references; so I'll study up on that. I've been so pressed to produce a product that I don't have the time to do all the tutorials. I am aware that I will save time and have a better model if I know more of how to use Fusion... I'm trying to learn as I go along and spend at least some time in the learning center.

I would appreciate some further clarification here...

"You should be able to create components in place and no need to move or create at the origin and use a joint to position." Did you mean NOT need to move? Do you have a tutorial you can reference for using a joint to position?

"Also you should create sketches then bodies in place using references. In a sketch project references from the body you want to add to then extrude using references for Start and Extent." I understand what sketches/bodies are however I don't exactly understand the rest, at least not is it may apply to every scenario. Again, a tutorial reference would be very helpful.

Also, thanks for spending time helping others.
