Horribly Slow And Inefficient

Hi, I'm using Fusion 360 to make super basic designs on pretty much the most powerful macbook, and it hangs all the time. This is a seriously heavy and inefficient program. I literally can't scale anything without it freezing up and crashing with pinwheel for hours! Smh, I was better off in sketchup. Lol

Thank you for posting in the community!

Sorry to hear that is happening! At this time I suspect there might be something related to network connectivity. As the quick test, can please you switch Fusion to the offline mode, by clicking the "clock" icon and turn on the "switch", and see if this makes any differences? If so, I would recommend checking the suggestions in this article.

Did this happen with a paricular design or any design files? Would you mind sharing one of the design files with me? If it is fine with you, can you please create a public link to the design file and post the link in this thread? You might like to send it directly to me (kanehiko.saito@autodesk.com).

Also, could you post your System Info (OS version, GPU, RAM, etc)?

Finally - within Fusion, please go to the help menu (the "?" icon) - Support and Diagnostics - Graphics Diagnostics, and see which card Fusion is defaulting to. Please take a screenshot.

If the previous response does not resolve the issue, can you File:Export and then Attach your *.f3d file here and indicate what and how you are attempting to “scale”?

Perhaps you can share some of the design that exhibit this problem.

There are all sorts of way you can share information. Screenshots, Screencasts, sharing the model.

May of the situations arise because users use workflows that might be OK in Sketchup, but not in a CAD application.

I have attached some files that I exported. Will this work? Idk why, but it will all the sudden lock up for like 20 seconds. :'(

In this design the main circle has a diameter of 24mm.

I want to shrink this down to 12mm. thanks.

scale seems to work pretty well for me. I don't see any long lags in this operation. You have two different components here, overlapping. Is that intentional? I assumed that Component2 is the one you want to scale.

My program looks completely different from that video. This new trial version is very buggy I think sadly. Also, why are they overlapping? I just want to rotate the face around to make like a coin and then scale the whole thing.

I did not turn the model around to see that Component 1 was the back side. I understand the workflow now.

I have the "UI Preview" turned on, which changes the toolbar into a tabbed version. But, the commands underneath are exactly the same.

If you have evidence of bugs, please provide it, so that we can fix them. I did not encounter any bugs in working with this design.

Thanks. I think the modify -> combine step was key. Ok, I will continue to open issues as I come across them.

Don't know why is super slow and laggy for me though. Fusion 360 does technically work, but instead of having the paintbrush in your hand it feels like you are skyping with someone 1000 miles away, telling them how to use the paintbrush.

It is very precise but weird too.

Bump, still having insanely bad performance with fusion 360. Do I need to buy a windows computer or what? This is seriously f&()*cking horrible, and I'm looking into other 3d modelling software now.

Once I have around 10-15 features in a project it's gg whenever I want to edit one of them. Pinwheel for days...

You are working with a second external display on an onboard graphics card with relatively low memory (for working with 2 displays).

Does your machine have a dedicated graphics chip ?

That of course is only relevant if the lag is a viewport performance problem.

Are you seeing thins lag also with the model in this thread ?

Can you disconnect your external monitor and verify if you still have lag ?

Thanks. I don't exactly know what you mean by an "external dedicated graphics chip". Actually, it still happens even when I'm not connected to the display.

If you look a the machine specs I posted in the first screenshot you see the Intel HD Graphics 630 with 1536 MB memory.

That is the integrated graphics chip built into the Intel CPU. The memory is "shared memory" meaning the graphics chip basically uses part of the RAM available on your computer.

The second screenshot shows a AMD Radeon 560 Pro with 4GB of dedicated graphics memory. This is a separate graphics chip that is much more performant than the integrated Intel graphics card.
