Pattern Along Path - Not Computing

I could use some assistance modeling a hole set along a path. I am going to machining this cribbage board and am having trouble getting the holes to pattern properly along a path. I found in another post the best method is to utilize the pattern feature (rather then faces or anything else) which I am doing but all 3 compute methods(optimize, identical, adjust) kick back errors. The holes need to follow path rather then be parallel. I get a decent preview but as soon as I hit ok, either nothing happens, or I get an error.

I saw you noticed my other post, what ended up being a work around was to split it, pattern along path for half, then mirror and join. I would be interested in hearing what the problem ended up being as to it now working properly.
