Get a "file already open" alert when opening file

Get a "file already open" alert when opening file - and then after the file has opened it appears in the tab with an ".f3d" suffix.

(File is not open and have tried relaunching etc.)

Screenshots below.

Am concerned might lose data. What should I do?

The full filename looks like this if mouseover the tab.

And if I try to save the spinner seems to go on and on and on....

Those screenshots didn't show up in your second post. Could you try posting them again, maybe smaller?

I think it would really help to see a screencast. Here are instructions to use the Screencast app to create a video of what's going on.

And to clarify, did you restart your computer as well as Fusion?

Here's the missing screenshot.

Have relaunched Fusion but not the computer: it's a Mac and only gets restarted once a month!

Will look into a screencast later in the day - it won't make for very exciting viewing!

I would definitely try restarting the computer. There may be an instance of Fusion running somewhere that is causing that file not to open.

Restarting the computer did it!

The file now behaves normally. Thanks. 😄

Before restarting did look in the "Activity Monitor" under CPU processes and could only find one instance of Fusion.

Is there a trick for finding and killing stray processes without restarting the machine (which is more laborious than some might think if one has a lot of work in progress and virtual environments and things).

Awesome!

As for stray processes... All I can think of is force quit on a Mac which would show if Fusion is hiding somewhere and kill it.

The Activity Monitor on the Mac gives a more complete list of processes than the "force quit" popup window. And there was only one Fusion process. Oh well 😉
