Ok it is starting, but its incredibly slow, and goes into not-responding state (the beach ball) most of the time. I'm going to try a different network to see if that is the cause

I upgraded my Mac to OSX 10.14.2 Ran fusion with no problems. Went to run it again (needed to change my model), and now It just hangs with the beachball of death.

Went and rebooted the computer, ran the cleaner app, and re-installed fusion. it still just hangs.

I have been having the same issues on a MacBook Pro (2013) and a brand new 2019 iMac with a fresh install of Fusion, this has been going on for multiple OSX and Fusion updates on the MacBook.

Fusion beach balls on first start, and has to be 'forced quit' and then started again.

I fill in the issue report that comes up, but no one has ever come back to me.

Did you ever get a resolution to this?

For info, the iMac has 72GB of RAM and an SSD hard drive, so some peoples suggestion regards memory and speed is not an issue.

I have not gotten a resolution. I just deal with it since my use of fusion is minimal and hobby use, although I have some other projects that I’m going to need fusion for. I’m on satellite internet (finally getting cable this week) so I’m hoping my issues may be network related. If 48g of ram is not enough I’d like to know what the recommendations are

Thank you for the reply Steven, most appreciated.

I'm a similar hobby user, so no paid-for support, but I'm on fairly decent broadband, so that shouldn't be an issue either.

Oh well, I'll keep filing the reports when it happens, and maybe one day we'll have an answer, I'll let you know.

Cheers 🙂

It happened to me a few times, but it normally resolves by itself, I only 8GB RAM ... and I'm on a macbookpro (first unibody). I don't think the ram is the problem. I found a correlation with the use of chrome, if I don't have chrome on, never happens. But it could be a coincidence.

Ram is, in any case, not the problem I'm pretty sure...

Hi,

Sorry to hear of the ongoing issues.

To see if it might be video-related (and for those that can), when Fusion launches go to the User Menu > Preferences > General section > Graphics driver and set it to OpenGL (default is Auto-select). This requires a restart of Fusion but may help.

Additionally, in the Help (?) menu > Support and Diagnostics > Graphics Diagnostic there's an option at the bottom of the dialog to "Limit effects to optimize performance". Ensure this is selected.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Thank you Kevin, I shall give those settings a go.

Though in the diagnostics section, the only option actually turned on is ground shadow.

Right. This option "limits" effects in the name of performance.

I understand, but the only option turned on before I went in there was ground effect, all the others were off anyway, and the limit effects simply turned ground effect off.

Unless using limit turns off other things that we can't see as a user option, and performance has never been an issue, on either the 2013 MacBook or 2019 iMac, simply the startup failure.

Of course I can't moan too much as it is still a fantastic piece of software that we get to use as hobbyist/educational users.

Thank you again for your help, it really is appreciated, and I'll see if the start up hanging is improved and will feedback my findings.
