Hello,

I have a project that is throwing the following error every time I try to save it:

"Error: The source asset Simulation Model in document 10degTiltbackHeadExercise3 v0 has not referenced the target asset FusionAssetName in document 10degTiltbackHeadExercise3 v0!"

I am not doing any simulation, just modeling and running CAM.

I would try to save it under a different project name but "Save As" appears not to be an option here. Is there a way to fix this and save the project?

MacOS High Sierra version 10.13.6

Thanks,

Doug

Hi @ritzdoug111,

Thank you for posting about the issue! Could you try deleting locally cached files after making backup files of them, and then saving the file again to see if that fixes the issue?

If that doesn't help, would you mind sharing a public link to the design with me and attaching the diagnostic log files?

It doesn't appear that I have any local Fusion 360 files. There is no Library directory in my Users/doug directory, only in the Users/Shared directory and the files there are unrelated to Fusion 360. I'm surprised by this, although I have never looked into what was being stored locally.

Next move?

Thanks.

Thanks for this information, I can see the Autodesk information under my Library file now. Unfortunately, I broke this project beyond recovery. I pulled the useful information from the sketches and have started a new project.

Thank you for the help.
ritzdoug111

I would suggest not marking this issue Solved. I tried the steps highlighted by @masa.minohara below the original post from @ritzdoug111 only to result in a Fusion crash that lost about 8 hours of design modification and toolpath creation.

The specific error I received before the crash was:

"The source asset MfgWorkingModel in document XXXXv2 has not referenced the target asset FusionAssetName in document XXXXv2!"

Apparently the autosave had not been possible and I somehow didn't see the small warnings that popped up every once in a while and then disappeared. They looked the same as the little warnings you get when you are in the middle of a parameter change dialog adjustment or other action which prevents a specific autosave. IMO this warning should have been a little more intrusive as I had no idea that by changes weren't being saved and I lost my work until I rebooted Fusion after the crash and saw the model at the same point from where I had begun 8 hours earlier.....

Back to the issue... Here are the steps that happened in sequence:

1. a few days prior (26 May) I made some changes to the model and exported to a STEP file to share with a supplier.

2. I reopened the document yesterday morning (30 May) and worked about 8 hours on the design and manufacturing model, making changes and fixes, including a significant rework of the manufacturing model that had existed prior (not sure why I didn't just create a new one looking back).

3. Over the course of the day I had done several manual saves after major changes where made. (In retrospect, I do believe that error messages did pop up, but as they disappeared after a moment I didn't take the notice I should have (head was too deep in the design)).

4. When Fusion would not close due to the error message is when I started the search for a solution and ran across this post.

5. I went into my hard drive as suggested and found the folder

C:\Users\***\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\5WUDKGVLZS5P\W.Login\F\

which contained several files with the same name as the model with suffixes .f3d , .f3d._xx , .png

I moved these files to a folder in the same directory that I created called "backup".

6. I tried to save the model again which resulted in a Fusion 360 crash.

7. I put the files moved in step 5 above back into their normal locations.

8. I reopened Fusion 360 and opened the same model to discover that the model was at the same point I left it on the 26 MAY and none of the work or changes were reflected. I tried to save the model and the same error messages appear and saving is not possible as the same error message still appears.

Any help greatly appreciated. I'm not expecting to recover my work, but hopefully this can help someone recover from that error before it's too late for them as well.

****There is one other thing that may have caused the issue, and this is likely from my poor file management process... Consider this a sub-note to step 1. from above....

I use a parametric model for the creation of different versions of the same parts. When I get these parts to a certain working level I will "Save As" to a new file with that version of the part that I can then make Derive parts from for manufacturing. On the last day I edited the model I found a change that was quite significant, so I changed the name of the model to XXXXv1 OLD and then created a new model using the parametric original and the "Save As" option with the name of the previous file XXXXv1 to replace that as my primary model for manufacturing components from in the future. While I have gotten away with this workflow previously, I now am guessing that this might have a lot to do with it. Tips are greatly appreciated.

Apologies for the lengthy post and Thanks in advance for any tips.

UPDATE on above post. I renamed the Old version of the file back to its original name and that seems to have solved the issue. Now the new file saves again, even though they now have the same name. Just a speculative guess, but I guess somehow the new file was referencing something cached from the old file and that was "reconnected" after the rename event? I guess it's time i start paying closer attention to the names of my working files. hahaha lesson learned the hard way. Now to make up for that 8 hours of lost time...
