Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing consistent crashes with Fusion 360 after upgrading my macOS to Sonoma 14.5. Here are my system specifications:

iMac (20,1)

Processor: 3.1 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5

Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 5300 4 GB

Memory: 64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

Fusion 360 Version: 2.0.19215 x86_64 [Native]

Active Plan: Personal

Issue Description:

After the macOS upgrade, Fusion 360 crashes arbitrarily during simple tasks. For example, performing an extrude on a specific body or using the coil tool in one file triggers a crash. The Fusion "Report a bug window" pops up, the screen turns red, and the application immediately quits without showing the Apple crash report. Below is a video of this.

<video-js data-video-id="6353845072112" data-account="6057940548001" data-player="default" data-embed="default" class="vjs-fluid" controls="" data-application-id="" style="width: 100%; height: 100%;"></video-js>
(view in My Videos)

Steps Taken:

Updated Software: Both Fusion 360 and macOS are updated to the latest versions.

Reinstalled Fusion 360: Uninstalled and reinstalled Fusion 360, but the issue persists.

Additional Details:

The crashes seem to be related to specific actions within the software.

No Apple crash report is displayed after the crash.

Request for Assistance:

Has anyone else experienced similar issues after upgrading to macOS Sonoma 14.5? Are there any known compatibility problems or additional steps I can take to resolve this? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have this mac set up with an external GPU from blankmagic (link). I will try and force it to use the integrated GPU.

As for the crash report, it does not remain on screen if I do not click. I can try and smash return if I see it happening and see if that works, but I would be impressed if the submit button grabbed focus and let me submit as fast as it seems to happen.

I think the eGPU was the problem. It was splitting the load between both the internal and external GPUs which I assume must have caused it. I am going to try and figure out a way to make it only use the internal GPU, either by modifying the list file or by making a simple script I can run from my terminal that will launch the app specifying the GPU. Ill try and remember to keep you posted.

The only reliable solution is to turn off your eGPU while using Fusion. I tried changing the info.plist settings as well as some command line commands to force fusion to only use the internal GPU, but no dice.

I also identified that the issue happens when fusion tries to simultaneously split processes between the internal and external GPUs. I watched my activity monitor and I could see when a partial load jumped to the eGPU, the program crashed.

The most recent update does not fix the issue. As noted above, hopefully, this will be fixed in a September update.

We have a major update planned likely in September.

This fix though is available in Fusion Insider builds. In my signature you will see a link to join the insider program. The insider build has this fix and that is the one that will go to production eventually.
