Hi,

My timeline is nice and organised and my design looking good. I want now to add a fillet to a part so I go back in the timeline to where that part is organised, open the group and add my fillet.

My fillet is in the right place in the timeline ...

... but I'd like it to be part of the timeline group for that part rather than hanging off the end.

Is this possible, if so, how?

Thanks in advance

No, another feature in Fusion that's never been finished.

The only work around is roll the timeline back before the last feature and add your new features. If this is not possible because you have to add new features after the last, is as above but just add something like a construction point. Then roll the timeline past the existing last feature drag the point past it then drag the timeline pointer before the point.

Your timeline would end up like this. First add the point before the fillet then drag past the fillet. Then either delete the point or leave it there so you can more easily add features to the group later.

It's late in the afternoon here and it's probably me, but no matter how many times I read your suggestion, I just can't follow it! But the take away point is that dragging a new, adjacent feature into an existing group, (how naive of me to think that might actually have been an option!), or right clicking on a group to pull up a menu item like, "add feature to group", does not exist.

I've been deleting groups and creating new ones when this comes up.

Thanks for the reply.

If you look at the timeline in my first post, I made the group with just 1 sketch, 1 extrude and a fillet. Then what I did was drag the timeline marker before the fillet, added the point, drag the pointer after the fillet(end of the group) and dragged the point past the fillet.

I'm not sure this is any quicker then deleting the group, recreating then renaming but it does save time if you leave the point there and add more features at a later time.

I see what you're saying - if a group has a feature like a Point, (which can be suppressed), as its last event, then expanding that group and rolling back before the Point and creating new features will ensure that that new features are included in the group. Clever.

Thanks for the tip.

YES You even can add and an existing element to an existing group

copy your group name,

memorize your group begin and end on the timeline or mark it. (you can surround group content by 2 dummy markers, for example 2 points you always keep in the beginning of your timeline for such needs)

delete existing group and expand its content according to https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-design-validate/creating-and-disbanding-groups/td-p/5868540

create a new group with name you keep in the clipboard

* move dummy markers to the beginning of timeline

P.S. I'm not sure that deletion and creation of a group with same name has no side effects.

This tool has a great base of features and UI. But then there are too many tremendously frustrating instances where it's lacking usability. I would not recommend anyone to pay the price for fusion 360 in it's current state, as you're not just paying money (for a often very unintuitive and frustration usability) but also paying with loads of time trying to figure out how to do the simplest of things in the UI, just to come to the conclusion that the simplest of things are not possible.

It's unfortunate as Fusion 360 has so much potential.

I have been thinking about this irrational problem for about 30-60 minutes.
You have to care about dependencies, but you can't modify dependency groups when adding or editing features.
?????

EDIT/2nd Answer:
Deleting the group does the job, but it must be taken with caution not to remove the components inside the group.
Once "freed", they can be chosen as a wider set of items then made into a new timeline group.

Nope! As usual with Fusion 360 there is a workaround since the problem continues to persist after years. My workaround is to create a construction point (doesn't matter where but I usually put it at the origin) after all the other steps in the group before I make the group and include it. That way if you need to add steps later on, you can go right before the point int he timeline and add the step and it will be inside the group.

Autodesk thinks they're being clever and modern with an icon-based "timeline". But it's really just an absolute nightmare compared to a good Feature Tree like Solidworks. In addition to groups being essentially uneditable, whenever I want to edit a feature... wait which of these icons that generally all look the same and have no visible labels unless I mouse over each one individually was the one that did that???

The timeline along the bottom does save some visual space in terms of pixel real estate but the price of losing all the textual and organizational capabilities of a feature tree isn't worth it.

Autodesk, please dump the timeline for a decent feature tree.
