Construction line disappears

I have a construction line on a component that I need to use to properly position it in the assembly. But -- as soon as I do a planar joint the construction line disappears. How can I get it back?

it's hard to say without the design. Can you share it here? It looks like a sketch inside one of your components has gone invisible, and you probably just need to make it visible again.

I'm not sure how to share it.. but notice that at the beginning of the screencast the construction line is there, but after the joint it is gone. I checked the visibility but I'll double check.. thanks!

I see what happened [but don't know why]. Look at this capture at the end of that screencast:

There on the left of the plate is the construction line -- the strut got jointed but it left the constuction line behind. I made the construction line by starting a sketch on the top of the strut, constructed the line and 'end sketch'. What could I have done wrong in setting up the construction line to make it not be 'stuck' to the strut?

To make sure the construction line stays with the part, make sure the construction line is a part of one of the sketches you used to create the component. Then, at any time you desire, you can return to the part in the browser and make the sketch "visible" that contains the construction line. By the way, if the component is linked to a file outside of your assembly (i.e. you place the file by using the "Insert into current design" from the datapanel) then you must break the link to make the sketch visible.

thinking about what I was seeing in the screen shot revealed the problem: It looked like the construction line wasn't "attached" to the strut... and it wasn't. I had mistakenly left the project activated when I added the strut. I deleted it, activated the component, added the construction line . And when I did a "get latest" the construction line was exactly where it should've been. Sorry for the false alarm
