Unresolved Component

I have a file which began to exhibit the Unresolved Component error.

As the change log was fairly simple, I can pinpoint this to last nights work. I inserted a linked component. I created a new component. I created three sketches on planes of the linked component and made some extrusions. I deleted the linked component as I did not need or want it in the design any longer. I have done this before in other assemblies and have never seen this error crop up as a result.

Curiously, it is a direct modeling file with no design history. I tried editing the sketches and breaking the links to the projected lines and saving that as a new version. It did not fix the error. Of course, since it is a DM file, there is no option to "redefine sketch planes" which I thought may also be a culprit or tripping things up. Not even an option given the lack of design history, obviously.

I then went through the forums and found discussions regarding backing up the local cache, clearing the local cache with the clean uninstall tool and reinstalling Fusion 360. I completed all of these steps, allowing the clean uninstall tool to delete the local cache during that process. I rebooted in between the steps just in case that might be helpful.

The document is still exhibiting this error.

Curiously enough, as another solution which I have attempted and was recommended in previous threads, if I open an older version from a point well before this presumed work caused this error (in this case 36 hours prior) it opens and does not display the warning. However when I save it as a new file and open that file, it does exhibit the same error. Perplexing.

Point of fact being this seems like a non issue other than presentation of the error. I am not seeing anything missing in the file. That being said, it's the unknown if any downstream effects I would like to avoid.

It seems from a best practices standpoint I should figure out how to eliminate the error.

Another curious factor to me is that the error states saving the file will result in the links to the unresolved components being "lost forever", that seems to not be the case as during the process of breaking the links in the sketches I decided to save a new version and see for myself if this was true. This then seems to not be true, because it keeps throwing the error even after this save. Seemingly more like "remembering forever" behavior, in a contrarian twist.

In the master file that references this component, it now also exhibits this error since the linked file has been updated, which is another confounding aspect and something I would hope is resolved when I can figure out how to fix it in the culprit document.

Thank you for any help you may be able to provide. I am not sure what aid it will be but I have attached a screenshot of the error just in case.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Thanks for posting!

What version of Fusion 360 are you using? You can see this by clicking the question mark in the upper right hand corner and clicking about. The most recent build of Fusion currently is 2.0.5519. If you are not on this version, can you please update? Are you still getting the error after the update?

If you are already on the most recent version, can you try the following:

Open the assembly

Toggle the origin - or whatever that'll make the document dirty

Save

Get All Latest

If this also does not help, can you please share a link to the assembly file here so that I can take a closer look?

Thanks,

Greetings @julia.paganucci ,

Thanks for your suggestions. I am indeed up to date, operating on version 2.0.5519.

I attempted the origin toggle in the assembly file, but as no linked components were reported as out of date, the Get All command was not available after this, save or not. I opened a linked sub component, completed the origin toggle in that and saved a new version. I then opened the assembly file and used the Get All Latest command at the top of the tree which was now available. Upon saving I was presented with the same error. After closing and re-opening the file I am still receiving this error.

I have not used the sharing service before so I do not know if this is correct usage, but if I right click on the file in the data panel and select "Share A Public Link" with the "Updated Version" and "Download" options selected I am presented with this link. I hope this is helpful for your diagnostic investigation: https://a360.co/2U5GK8q

I have been using Fusion almost every day for at least two years and this is the only time I have received an error I could not resolve myself through Google searching and reading forum subthread results. In this way I am both very grateful for the stability of the application workflow in general and of course highly appreciative of your assistance, as I do not see how I can resolve this through my own cognizance. Thank you, have a nice day.

Thank you very much for the file link! I am getting the same warning of unresolved components.

Let's try the following the steps:

Create a back-up of your local cache for Fusion 360

Open the designs referenced in the main assembly

Open the main assembly.

I will continue to troubleshoot on my machine as well.

Greetings @julia.paganucci ,

Apologies for the delayed response, I was not able to schedule any Fusion time yesterday.

Although I was admittedly dismayed at your suggestion, having already executed steps 1 and 2, this morning I began by opening the assembly file exhibiting the Unresolved Component error, drilling down through each subcomponent and creating a manual notepad line item inventory of the dependent linked files necessary to complete this suggested step: "3. Open the designs referenced in the main assembly".

I was surprised and frankly feeling rather sheepish when halfway through this inventory process, I discovered the "Unresolved Components" as two line items under my First Floor > Doors subcomponent. Both of these instances seemed to be identical in terms of the sections of the model highlighted when selected, although I could not click the down-arrow in the navigator to expand them and examine the contents. Presumably I could have right clicked and selected Convert Components to Bodies to see if that did anything, suffice it to say I was not interested in exploring this any further.

As a point of tying up loose ends with regards to my creation of this thread and request for assistance, I documented this with screenshots of the user interface. The first screenshot is a demonstration of the two "Unresolved Components" existing as described and their display behavior when selected. The second screenshot is a demonstration of the selected components which seem to have been somehow, unbeknownst to me and unrelated to any work I had done previously, been collated into these duplicate instances of "Unresolved Components". As part of the mystery, it seems the entire First Floor > Doors component was grouped into an Unresolved Component which was then duplicated, although this occurred at the sub-level of the Doors component and not the First Floor component. Bizarre.

I couldn't tell you why this happened. All I know is I can pin-point this occurrence between versions when I had worked on the roof attic walls, to that specific evening timestamp. As a matter of reference and to add to the mystery, I had not modified the position, orientation, or anything about any of the individual doors in their own individual files, the collective component or anything on the entire First Floor component of the assembly file in many days.

Long story short, after deleting the Unresolved Components and saving this assembly file, the Unresolved Components error is no longer presenting itself at the Opening and Saving of the file. Similarly, once I opened the master assembly file and updated the current version of this sub-assembly, the error was no longer reflected in the master file.

Thank you for your assistance, I appreciate your investigation of this issue and examination of the file. Hopefully this thread can help someone in the future if they run into a similar issue. I will mark your suggestion as the Answer and call this Solved. Have a nice day.
