How to save a custom title block?

When I am in drawing workspace and I create a new title block it is only visible within that very drawing. And if I close the drawing and the title block was not used it gets deleted. My question is how to create a custom block title by modifying the defult one and saving it, so I can use it in future projects.

File -> Save as -> Drawing Template (.f2d)

If you create from "New Drawing Template", then just save it and it will save as drawing template. If you are using "From Design", then "Save As" -> "Drawing Template".

I am probably doing something wrong because I just cannot get it to work.

Can you please explain to me step by stap how to do it?

I basically want an option to switch from default ISO title block to my custom title block (see the image).

Hi,

1. create a 2. sheet

select your template for sheet 2:;

3. activate sheet 1 > titleblock > your titleblock will be shown in the screencast above

I followed your steps but it doesn't work. I only get two options when I create a drawing which are "From Scratch" and "Browse".

I noticed that a template can be used if it is in the same folder as a design which is a source file for the drawing. Is that normal because it seems rather unpractical to have sepparate copies of the same templates in each folder.

Hi,

The template is located as f2d in a folder in the data panel.

This does not have to be the folder where the design is located.

It is created via File .. and saved there.

In the GIF I show how a new template can be added and used for other sheets.

Thank you for the help.

Unfortunately I cannot claim that I understand the logic but after hours of trying I somehow made it to work.

Do you have a separate project folder where you keep your templates?

It would be much better in my opinion if one could simply upload a template into Assets folder and pick the right one when creating a new drawing.

Hi,

The procedure for using individual title blocks is actually somewhat tricky.

The process:

1. you create a new template via File > New Drawing > New Drawing Template.
2. sheet settings > Title block > add title block
3. from current or create new >> name for new title block!! *
4. save with "template name" in a folder for templates .

Important: Title blocks are not saved separately but are always bound to a template.

* The names of title blocks do not have to be identical with the names of the template.

The embedding into a new drawing is described above.

This is very difficult to get a a working understanding of.

Am I right in thinking that once the template has been used to make a new drawing, there is no link between the template file (and thus its title blocks) and the new file? I ask because I notice that changes in the title blocks in my templates don't seem to propagate to existing drawings made using those templates.

In other words:

'Title blocks' are a subset of 'Drawing templates'.

'Drawing templates' are not a subset of 'Drawings'.

When a Drawing is created from a template, the 'Drawing template' including 'Title blocks' is copied into the 'Drawing'.

Hi,

Yes, a saved change in the f2d template does not trigger an update action (yellow triangle).

Only when on the way:

Add sheet & select the modified template & "Change Titleblock" the template will be transferred to another worksheet in the modified form.

I'm sorry I don't understand your second point there.
I just tried this and it did not behave correctly:
My alternative title block is present in my template, and works fine
when I create a new drawing: I can select between the two title blocks
using the dropdown menu in 'Change title block'.
If I take an existing drawing and add a new sheet, using the same
template as a template, the second title block does not appear in the
'Change title block' dropdown menu.

That´s right.

A title block is bound to the template and thus only available via a new template.

Change Titleblock in Existing Drawing:

1. Add sheet & select the modified template "Sheet 2)

2. Leftclick "Sheet 1" > "Sheet Settings" > Titleblock > Change Titleblock > Menue "Sheet Settings" > select TB

OK, I think you've maybe got sheet 2 and sheet 1 mixed up there but it sounds like you are describing the second method I was referring to.

I have made a screencast to show what I'm meaning. I think you may understand already what I'm meaning, but I don't understand why the two methods create different results.

In both the workflows I am describing, I am using 'change title block' AFTER the drawing sheet has successfully been created from the exact same template file. What I don't understand is why the different methods of creating the drawing sheet should result in different options for titleblocks (ie. using 'new drawing' from a 'design' and selecting the template file vs. using 'new sheet' from a 'drawing' and selecting the same template file).

Hi,

As I wrote above, it's a little tricky.
Try not to use the Quick Add method but like I showed it in # 8 in the GIF:
> Right Click > ADD SHEET.
