This is a nasty UI bug that started when I updated to this week's build, v2.0.5658

The history marker in the timeline just disappears! I just made a quick video...

some easy steps to make it go to infinity and beyond...

1) open file

2) select sub component in browser, and make it active

3) the design history time must be set to filter active component

4) and presto the marker is gone forever.

This is really a handicap to use F360 now. I've seen someone post a video about "giggling the scrollbar to get the marker back. That doesn't work here.

Please restore this basic functionality of F360.

Ok it happened again, but not on a file I am comfortable sharing because I don't particularly trust Autodesk's privacy practices.

But what I can say is that I rolled the timeline back to a point where I wanted to "Insert component into current design". I imported the design, and then immediately created a joint using it and another previously imported component.

The joint worked, and upon saving, the timeline marker was not visible and could not be moved by mousing over its theoretical position.

see below:

Hi Autodesk.

This bug is still present at 07 Nov 2019 on F360 ver. 2.0.6658 running on a Dell XPS under Windows 7 Home 64 bit and Windows Update patched (selectively) up to date.

The Timeline History Marker disappears from the Timeline. A save and restart of F360 usually brings it back. Not sure what's triggering it. My Design is complex and not practical to share - too complex to aid in pinning this bug down.

Turning "Hide All Inactive Features" off had no effect. Marker remained vanished.

Makes using F360 fiddly as others have said...

Additional to previous post.

I also noticed that clicking in the Timeline there were no "action" pop-ups. E.g. the "Move History Marker Here" etc. or perhaps even the object actions (Edit object, etc.).

And somehow my Design was thoroughly messed up. Had to restart F360 (and for good practice Windows etc. too). History Marker then back but my Design was a mess. The Browser list contents did not match what was in the Timeline - many Components etc. missing. So I quit (no save) and Promoted an earlier Saved version.

History Marker has just disappeared for me also. An assembly being constructed by 'insert' of components. Some functionality is still there: For example clicking in the timeline and selecting 'roll history marker here' places the actions at the right point in the timeline, the following actions are greyed out, but the marker is missing.

Open an empty (new) file and the marker is visible in that file. Go back to that file and the marker still missing.

Shutdown F360 and immediately restart, open file and history marker is back.

This problem has been lurking for some time now - how about a fix? Please?

Perhaps you have experienced it more than I have. It's been maybe 5 times for me, and two or three times on the same file. Oddly, I've never had it happen on my 1440p monitor on my macOS desktop, only on my 1080p macOS laptop monitor.

As long as I can fix it by restarting or re-opening the file, It's not a huge annoyance to me, as the problem is scarce. It's not a file-breaking issue.

It is quite annoying though when you're designing something and have ideas in your head and you have to restart the program. I've been taking notes in Notepad/TextEdit religiously now that I use F360 simply as a way to autosave what's in my mind because something is bound to lock the program up or cause issues like this.

the status is the same as it has been for the past N months: We are unable to reliably reproduce this problem. Until we can reproduce it, we cannot fix it. If you have a set of steps that will cause this to appear, please let us know what those are.

Jeff, I am able to reproduce it as shown in my first post. This bug cripples the parametric history architecture of Fusion360. The fact that so many others are having the same issue, yet Autodesk cannot reproduce seems like poor QA management. Nobody from QA has contacted me either. I've also discovered and nailed down the exact trigger of other crippling bugs that make the entire UI unresponsive. I've been reporting bugs for over two years, none of which have been fixed to this day. Such UX bugs would usually be considered as paramount as they inhibit the entire application. I truly think Fusion 360 is a great concept, but lately fail to comprehend how priorities are being set for the dev team? Fusion 360 seems to be in a state of disarray. Give us cool modeling tools, but take away the ability to use them.

Perhaps I can be more involved with the dev team. I'm open to helping out more. I'm a not your typical user. I am product developer, and have UX experience like no other.

Sincerely,

- Noel Rubin . oO(two-time Emmy award winning UX designer // R&D: http://teknoelogy.com)

In the last two instances where this happened, it only occurred to me that it had vanished when I went to seek out the current position to modify something. It's rather difficult to keep an eye on the timeline when doing the speed-round in designing- only to find out it flew away somewhere.

I was trying to remember what I last did and why it disappeared, but I just couldn't remember when it happened so it would have been a shot in the dark to say the least.

This evening I'll play around some more and see if I can catch it when it happens, but it seems really random.
