Fusion freezing up with sketch's

Reading similar problem posts and seems this problem dates way back to 2012. Once you have a sketch much more complex then a few lines fusion has all sorts of trouble dealing with it.

Ive had the problem many times with different sketches or SVG's but the one today for example is a diamond crosshatch pattern which is made up of only about 64 line. If I try do anything with this sketch (delete a line, add a line, try to move it etc) fusion just freezes up... If I wait about 10 minutes sometimes it finally computes, somestimes not.
I need to project these lines to a curved surface then use trace tool path to engrave it which works really well once I finally get the sketch finished

Ive tried to attach the .dxf of the sketch but it wouldn't let me?

Just wondering if this is ever going to be fixed?

I have a pretty decent Alienware laptop with 16gb ram... Ive considered upgrading to a new one with better gfx card and 32gb ram but not sure if it will even help?

Hi,

1. upload the file as zip or embedded in f3d.
2. The graphics card will not help you.
3. Basically, all imports, whether dxf or svg, are risky.

The sketch was a local sketch I had made within Fusion, just exported the sketch as a .dxf to show it.

Hi Clint,

I can confirm your observation.
In two other applications I could load the dxf without any problems.
The only thing I noticed were some double lines, but they are definitely not responsible for the problem.
I think this is something for the support team.

Something odd but after it eventually loads I have a couple of tips that might help. First edit the sketch and uncheck Show Profile then window select everything and add a Fix constraint. As you only want to project to a surface you don't need the profile shading to extrude. @jeff_strater Any idea why this file's a problem. Do all the intersection cause problems?

But if you window select all there are more.

Hello @g-andresen :),

here is the file.

It becomes non-usable when I enable "show profile" - which I need at this point as I want to go into third dimension (Extrude).

[I hope that your answer would not be as dozens here (that "Fusion is not good for 2D blah blah blah") because in my opinion in 2021 2D freezing-endles-compute problem should be solved. Many times you need 2D first before going to 3D.]

My answer is based on (numerous) experiences with such sketches.

Even if it is "blah" to you, there is no way around reducing your sketch so that only a few extrusions are needed and then using them to create patterns to achieve the goal.
