Hi,

Good question. It sounds like you are making copies of a component. As such, they are all identical. These are known as "instances" of that component. For example, if you place a screw in your design, and copy it, it's the same screw with the same name and part number.

What you want is achieved by using copy + "Paste new". This creates an independent instance of that object, not tied to the other instance, hence "new".

Paste new is on the right click menu

1. How do I to change a Copied Components Parts Name, Number & Description?

2. All the Copied Components are in the same Model.

3. When I use the Properties function/drop-down all the copies components names in the Model are change to the same Part Name, Number & Description of the original component.

Thanks, Bob

Hey bob,

I think you're making instances of a component by copy/pasting them. If you want to make unique copies of components, meaning if you change one copy the others will not change, you can copy / right-click / paste new.

Even though "Paste New" allows you to name the component as you wish, is it possible to have a component pasted as an instance and still change the name from i.e. "Bolt:2" to "Bolt:TopLeft" ?

So that I can have instances that behave the same but still identify them more easily.

no, that is not possible. The ":1", ":2", etc naming is hard-coded. You cannot change this "instance suffix" at all.

Without an image or video to go on, I'm going to guess you are copying a body, not a component.

A body is only a container for 3D shapes, and it is owned by a component.

A component is a coordinate system with things like bodies and sketches attached to it.

Paste new is for components only. Right click on the component in the browser, pick copy, then right click to paste new. If this fails, please put up a video when you have time.
