Hi @Anonymous -

It looks like you have done a fair bit of research on Generative Design in Fusion 360. Your findings on using a level set approach are correct and our synthesis methods for shape calculation and manufacturing constraints are algorithmic at their foundations. There is not a specific AI or ML powered part of the commercial offering today, however, we are actively investigating a number of areas where these types of solutions could make sense.

As for Dreamcatcher, it is not something that is publicly available. Further, the commercial solution for Generative Design in Fusion 360 is different enough that I am not sure calling it "watered down" is an accurate description, as it is just different in various ways.

Here are a few links to interesting write-ups on the current solution.

Hello!
I am a masters student in mechanical engineering and I am about to start to write my thesis on the topic of generative design (as opposed to classical topology optimization) using the GD module in Fusion360.
The original idea was to look at the implementation of GD in the design process as an application of artificial intelligence, as advertised on the Dreamcatcher page. However, I have found no information (yet) about the exact kind of AI usage in this this case. I found out that GD uses a level-set approach for the topology synthesis, which sets it apart from the "classical" SIMP topology optimization, but apart from that and the cloud computing of multiple materials and starting geometries I fail to see the big fundamental AI difference.
Aside from that I've been wondering if the Dreamcatcher functionality has been implemented fully into Fusion360 or if it a "watered down" market version when compared to the original research version? If so, is there a way to access the research version of Dreamcatcher?
I am aware that the forums might not be the best place to ask these question, but I still wanted to try.
