Hi,

I have a simple design that uses shapes I extruded from imported DWG files. The last step in my timeline is a simple rectangular pattern. For some reason it is not producing the pattern in both directions even though it shows in the preview. I assume I am missing something or have something wrong with my file? This is my first design using linked components. I have broken the links because I also discovered you cannot export a design that has linked components?

Thanks,

Jon

The reason it's not working is because you can't copy features\faces to another component. Also your design sets off alarms because of the save position features in the timeline, they have their uses but for an assembly like this should be avoided as they hit performance and are not efficient. You should build this just using joints, do not use move with components.

Thanks for responding. I was not aware of that but it makes, just not clear from the fusion command help.

What would be the optimal way to tackle this? Create a sketch on each component?

I try and make my components as independent as possible but for a small assembly you could have a master sketch\sketches and just create points where you want the holes then use the hole tool across the 2 components. I'd still prefer a sketch in each component using reference geometry(projected lines\edges) to position the point then use the hole tool.

Also I appreciate your tip on the capture postion features in the timeline. I did use the move command before using the joint command. Always good to learn the proper way to do things!

Regards,

Jon

It's OK to use a temporary Move, Save Position then add the joint, when the joint's created you can delete the save position and Move without affecting the assembly.

Thanks for the tips. I have deleted the moves from my timeline since I have rigid joints.

Appreciate your help.

Jon
