Hi:

I was trying to export a design from fusion 360 as a step file, although it lets me export, the file is only a few kb and something is definitely wrong. Please help. Thanks!

What's in the design you're trying to export? Fusion can only export surfaces and solids to STP, no meshes, sketches etc.

There's no file attached, you need to use the forum to attach files. If you've imported a STL file you will not be able to export it to STEP as Fusion does not support meshes in STEP files.

What are you hoping to do with the file when its converted? If you have History off you can select a mesh and convert to a brep but it will still basically be a mesh and if you are trying to get a part machined there's a good chance machine shops will not be interested.

Hi: so I also created something simple and random in fusion and tried to export it as step file, but I still got an empty file. How could that be the case?

What did you create? can you export the design as an f3d and attach here. Only other time I've come across failed exports was if there were non standard characters in the file name or path.
