topic Educational Usage Terms for lab in Fusion Support Forum

Hi,

I have educational access to Autodesk products through my accredited technical university. The Terms of Usage state "Education Users may not access or use the Education Offering for commercial or professional purposes, training classes (including but not limited to classes open to the public), facilities management, or other for-profit purposes. Education Offerings may not be used by the facilities department of a Qualified Educational Institution. " I'm not entirely sure what's meant by "facilities management", so my question is: can I use the education license for Fusion 360 to design and build some equipment for general lab usage such as tools, tool holders and other lab equipment? I often create small (mostly 3D-printed) stuff to tidy up the lab a bit for example. To me it's quite vague when something becomes "facilities management" and "lab [facilities] management". Anybody can help me out there?

Second question is: does the exemption "Students may participate in the Education plan to conduct thesis or master's work. This includes project topics that may have been provided by an industry partner, under the condition that the activity forms part of the student's degree." also hold when that particular industry partner provides funds for the project and some "internship allowance" to me? I'm only working at the university's labs for that matter; I don't use any of the company's facilities.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @b_a_s_dekker,

I've reached out internally to clarify what falls within facilities management. For your second question, what are the students producing and will the design be used commercially? Commerical use is almost always excluded from the Education terms of use but I'm aware of the valuable overlap between industry and academia, particularly where modules are cocreated.

I look forward to hearing from you and I'll follow up when I have clarification from our Education team.

All the best,

Hi @b_a_s_dekker,

I have confirmation from our Education Team. They are happy for you to create tool holders and equipment for your classroom, especially if it can be used as a teaching moment to support students. The critical factor in determining whether this would fall outside of the Educational terms would be commercial use, so as long as there is no commercial use such as campus building design, you're good to go.

I hope this answers your question 🙂

Thanks a lot for your answer on creating things like tool holders, I think that answers my question. As for my second question: I think I wasn't entirely clear on explaining the exact case, but let's just drop that question for now 🙂
