I agree! This I suppose, was to simplify, make it easier to work with, etc. NOT HAPPENING! The work flow is actually 'adding' steps to the design process. Old method, Circle-pick a type. Arc-pick a type. New method, Find an icon of a circle-select circle, pick-a-type of circle, or select the circle icon-select arc, pick-a type- of arc. Extra step EVERY TIME! Want to measure or change a dimension? Go to the Inspect, that's where the ruler has been stashed away, and go through another set of steps. Made things simpler? Sometimes the original is better than the makeover.

I am a new user and spent the last two months trying to learn fusion 360 an succeeding, with great joy. I have come a long way and really getting the hang of it. Learning new stuff every day.

then.....

you guys rolled out a new update.

I have trouble finding stuff, menu's disappearing on me, functions are in different menus. It feels like I have to learn everything all over again. To make matters worse, All the tutorial videos I like to watch if I get stuck on something are useless now.
I respect the choice to go into a new direction design wise, but this...is just throwing the scrabble box in the air. Im sure there is a logical reason for the menu's but I've just gotten use to the first one.

That is all I have to say. Have to start all over again an that does not feel good..

I'm not sure what you mean here. All of these seem to work the exact same as they used to for me. You don't have to use the drop down for measure/inspect to get the 'ruler' its the top level option in the toolbar.

Hi Jim,

1. The selection of the sketch tools is still at the same place. The difference to the "old" UI is that they are only visible and usable when the sketch mode has been activated.
This is very useful, because if I am in a different (e.g. model) mode, the focus remains on the tools that are currently relevant.
2. The measure tool has been under the Inspect tab for ages. It´s avalable for both sketch and model. So it has always been "hidden" if that is your point of view .
Dimensions are still changed in sketch mode and not with inspect/measure.

günther

günther

Can I move the measure instrument up to the tool bar, and choose which tasks
I want to be at the ready? ? Can I move the constraints off of the tool bar?
Maybe for a "power user" your logic makes sense. Not a fan.

Personally I like the new GUI, however I like idea of choosing toolbar items, or even having fusion 'remember' what you use most, and display that instead of items you rarely click.

Different people use different tools more often than others I guess, so having those tools 'on hand' would be cool.

Maybe open a new 'idea' for consideration.

I agree entirely. I too am a new user that has been struggling for weeks to learn my way around and was finally able to do so. Then, today, the UI changes and I can't even find how to sketch an arc anymore. Very frustrating. Maybe there should be an option to turn off this horrible new UI for those of us that don't have the time to learn it all again?

When you started with CAD and even when I started with CAD really was difficult and very clunky. No one spent a split second on getting a UI pretty or even aimed it at noobs.
These were tools from specialists for specialists.

I remember spending hours to just get a hatch not to fail when working with early versions of AutoCAD more than 25 years ago.

Today CAD is incredibly easy, not only because the tools are much more intuitive, but because educational materials are at your fingertips.

Good point but it is still a shame that the hundreds (if not thousands) of very good "how to" instructional videos out there are now nearly worthless. I used to depend of them to help me learn where a tool could be found in a menu, and what steps were needed to get the desired result. Now they are almost impossible to use since I can't find the tool I want anymore. I will eventually learn the new UI but it should be my choice to be re-trained. I can just as easily be "re-trained" by starting with a different product altogether. It wouldn't cost me any more time or effort to drop Fusion 360 and use something else. Maybe some thought about the massive loss in productivity and loss of product-loyalty the re-training causes should be considered before it is just dropped on us without any choice in the matter. Maybe the new UI a great thing from a marketing perspective and maybe even from an expert's POV, but it doesn't seem all that great for the rest of us.

Hi David,

Check this out.

Behavior of sketch tools

So the only thing that has changed is that the sketching tool only becomes visible when you need it. If it is active, there is no difference to the "old version".

günther

@Anonymous wrote:

I can just as easily be "re-trained" by starting with a different product altogether....

I use Autodesk Inventor Professional, SolidWorks and Creo. I dabble in Fusion 360.

The new UI in Fusion 360 is more like the Inventor, SolidWorks and Creo interface and therefore I feel more comfortable with the new UI.
