Custom Threads Lost - Can the values be retrieved?

I have several parts which contain a custom thread. Unfortunately the Csutom Threads no longer exist. The timeline does not show an error, but if I try and open the thread operation to find out what the thread on that part is it throws an error. Is there any way to retrieve the data used to create that thread?

You'll be happy to hear that you have a very good chance of fixing this. If you're still using the same computer then the most likely cause is a Fusion update. FYI: most times when Fusion receives an update it will install to a new folder and change the location of a whole bunch of files in the process. The standard thread files are included in the move but if you have any custom thread files these get left behind in the old location. All you need to do is locate the old thread files and move them to the new folder. To save you having to do this in the future I would highly recommend the ThreadKeeper add-in.

Thanks for that - now installed, but unfortunately it doesn't cure the problem, looks like the XML is gone for good.

No, Thread Keeper will not cure your immediate problem with the apparent loss of your thread files. What it will do is next time there's a Fusion update as it will automatically move your custom threads for you.

What you need to do to get over your current issue is to go and find your thread files (they should still be on your system) and manually move them to the new thread folder. Unfortunately I'm just about to go out for about an hour so I can't give more detail of where you'll find these right now. Let us know how you get on finding the files and if you have difficulty I'll try to give more detailed help when I return.

EDIT: Since I posted the reply below I've added a function to my thread utility (linked in my signature) which should make it easier to find and copy your orphaned thread files to your current Fusion thread folder.

Ok, I'm back now. So, first of all lets try to find your thread files. I don't know if you're on Mac or Windows but I only do Windows. Open up a File Explorer window and type (or copy & paste) the following into the path field:

%localappdata%\Autodesk\webdeploy\production

You should see a bunch of folders like this:

The most recent is usually the current active Fusion folder and the others are (mostly) previous Fusion locations. Your 'lost' custom thread files should be located under one of these previous folders. The thread files reside in the following location under one of these previous folders: \Fusion\Server\Fusion\Configuration\ThreadData .

Once you've found the files, you need to copy them to somewhere that ThreadKeeper can find them. There is a default folder where ThreadKeeper looks for custom threads but this can be changed to another folder if desired. For instance you might want the folder to be on a network share or cloud drive if you want the thread files to be shared between computers. Copy or move the thread files you found into the ThreadKeeper thread folder and next time you fire up Fusion TK should copy your custom threads to the new Fusion folder for you. Now it's all set up TK should automatically perform the copy for you whenever Fusion receives an update.
