Hi,

I have been having a problem with Fusion freezing.

I have a logo that I insert into the legend for a drawing.

I have found that if I type the numbers, X and Y offset distances and image scale, too fast Fusion locks up to the point that I have to go into Windows Task Manager to kill Fusion. Which means redoing all my work since my last save.

It looks like Fusion can only process one number at a time. If I enter a number, then click on the next space, enter the next number and hit enter before the first has been processed. Fusion locks up.

If I remember and slow down a bit the numbers enter just fine and the image is inserted exactly where it should be.

Note that this last line is NOT a solution. If I am in the middle of creating something, the last thing I need is to remember to slow down.

Any thoughts?

Regards,

Brett

Hi,

I'd like to look into this problem. It's not clear to me what workflow you are talking about.

Are you creating a custom title block for a drawing?

Thanks,

Good morning Phil,

Thanks for your time.

I'm using the standard title block, just adding an image logo over it. So nothing complicated or special.

Click on "Insert"

Find and select the image I need.

Click on the bottom left corner of the "Dept" block in the title block

Select the "X Distance" and enter an offset

Select the "Y Distance" and enter an offset

Select the "Scale" and enter a scale

Click "Ok"

While Fusion is busy "thinking" about any of these numbers, the number is red (almost as if the number entered is not valid) until the distance or scale is implemented. If I enter the next number (Y Distance or Scale) before the previous number is accepted, Fusion freezes up totally.

Waiting for Fusion to clear the problem (about an hour the first time - and I thought I had done something wrong, which is why I did not report it), solves nothing it just hangs.

I have to go into Windows Task Manager, force Fusion to shutdown and then restart. Generally loosing at least some work.

I am using the latest versions of Fusion and Windows 10, and I am connecting to the net via a LAN and fibre from there.

Regards,

Brett

Thanks for the details.

I'm trying to reproduce this on Win 10 and cannot. I can't get the numbers to turn red at any time, and no matter how fast I type, they are all valid entries that instantly update the image.

Sorry but I'm down to more questions until I understand how to reproduce this. Thanks for your patience and answers.

Does it persist after restarting your computer?

What is the size of your image file?

Does it happen in other places, such as any other dialog box, or in the Parameters dialog?

Can you make a video of this behavior?

It would also be nice if anyone else has seen this to chime in.

Thanks,

Hi Phil,

Just to clarify, this seems to be an intermittent problem as it has only happened twice in the last couple of months, having said that I have been using a template for new drawings that already includes the logo and I only have to insert the logo when I update an older drawing - which is not very frequent.

I cannot replicate the problem on demand, and I do understand that a problem as intermittent as this might not feel very critical to the design team, but I think that anything that can freeze a program as totally as this does need to be investigated.

I have not seen the problem elsewhere.

There is no warning, and when it happens Fusion is totally locked up. The only way I could possibly video capture it is to capture everything I do, possibly for weeks. Somehow I don't think that is a viable possibility, the video file even for one day would be enormous.

The logo is a 14kb PNG file.

I have no idea if restarting my computer affects it or not. As I said above - I cannot replicate the problem on demand.

It happened again late yesterday afternoon, and I have included an image of the text box. Fusion has locked up and the scale value is red as if the number is invalid. Note that it does not only happen with the scale value, it has also happened with the y distance. My apologies for the file size and graininess of the image.

There is a very brief, but perceptible, pause after entering any of the values. During the pause the number entered is red and the image does not update. Is it possible that a slower connection than yours could be the cause?

Regards,

Brett

Thanks for the details. This problem, IMO, is only related to the workflow you are doing. The real problem I see is why the values would turn red and send Fusion into some kind of compute lockup. Red text indicates an invalid value is entered, and I can see that it's valid in your image. The little pause you see when entering any values is also a clue.

After you quit Fusion, and do the workflow again, what happens? If it works perfectly on the second try, that indicates an intermittent problem on your machine, such as a memory issue. The fact that it doesn't repeat each time for you is an indication of a temporary condition, memory is the first thing to check.

The internet connection has zero to do with this, it's all internally happening on your computer. But let's look at other differences that might exist just for you.

Do you have any special keyboard hardware, or settings such as language or accessibility?

Is your keyboard wireless?

Is Windows up to date?

Graphics drivers up to date?

Thanks,
