First and Third angle projection are WRONG

I have a drawing template that I set up months ago. It is 3rd angle projection.

Today, I have selected a part from within a design, right-clicked, 'Create Drawing' and elected to use my template.

The drawing it has created is 1st Angle projection, it cannot be changed. I have checked my template and it is still 3rd Angle.

WHAT IS GOING ON FUSION 360?!

I have called every phone number I can find in the UK for Autodesk support and have been pinballed from automated list to automated list, and invited to leave a voicemail which will be reviewed in 'up to 2 business days' (!!!).

Anyone that can explain what has gone on is welcome to contact me directly here or by phone.

I can confirm the error.

Here's one of my templates.

And a drawing created with the template shows first angle!

There does seem to be a workaround. Set your preferences to ISO and override to third angle. @TimeraAutodesk is this bug known?

Thanks Mark, glad I'm not going crazy. Your workaround is really helpful.

I haven't marked it as solution yet, in the hope the thread gets more attention as a serious bug, because this is not something we should need a workaround for, it is unprofessional and unacceptable.

Autodesk, please get on this!

Are you using todays update? I hadn't noticed the update with my previous test, don't really have time to try again with today's update.

Yes, I too only noticed the update after posting on here. I've updated and checked, and the problem still exists. (Today's version: 2.0.6440)

@Phil.E Can you help with this? think the problem's been around for a while but you would not notice unless you have a custom template set to ISO and third angle projection.

At first read it looks to me like Fusion is simply ignoring the template settings and using the drawings preference. Would you agree?

I need to get the QA for drawings involved here.

Yes that seems to be the problem. It did work in the past, I have a template I made a while ago but can't see an easy way to export and share here.

Should add it just seems to default to the ISO default not just the default you have set in preferences. I had my preferences set to ASME with override enabled but the ISO template that's set to third angle produced first angle views.

This workaround didn't work for me.

You would figure this would be fairly easy to correct, but it just hasn't been done.

Autodesk, why hasn't this been taken care of????

@tchmiel112 I appreciate your impatience, but we only just now discovered it yesterday, thanks to the OP here.

I'm told that this is as design behavior. Preferences is supposed to control what happens when new drawing views are made. I've asked why we show outdated information in the drawing properties.

What the drawing template shows for projection type is what was set when creating the template.
When you create a drawing using this template, what is set in Preferences is what's used.
Changing the template or Preferences settings will not affect any existing documents. You would need to redo the drawing. I hope you didn't get too far down the wrong path before noticing the projections were all inside out!

Since it's only been a day, I don't know what the drawing team will decide. I'm happy to update this thread when a decision is taken.

Try this step, it might help: Set your preferences to the style you want, wait at least 60 seconds for preferences to sync with the cloud, then restart Fusion. After Fusion has restarted, check your preferences. Are they what you want to use?

As long as Preferences and your template agree, the drawing should come out as planned.

In order to make some drawings 3rd angle and some drawings 1st angle:

You will need to create templates that have these two styles.
You will need to switch preferences to agree with the template you wish to use.
Then create a drawing using the projection style you want.

UPDATE:

After some investigation we have determined this is indeed a bug. Preferences should not override the settings of the template.
When this is finally fixed, you can have templates in any style and they will perform per the style no matter the preference.
No idea when this will get fixed, so in the mean time, as long as your preferences are what you intend to draw with, you can create drawings per your desired style. Once made, the drawing will not change if you change your preferences.

Any news on this being fixed?

I cannot for the life of me get any drawing into 3rd angle projection. No matter if I change preferences to override or make templates in 3rd angle.

When I generate a drawing from an ISO design it reverts back to 1st angle. Very frustrating.

The only way I can see to get a 3rd angle drawing is to start my design from scratch in ASME but I'm not sure even that will work.

Any help appreciated.

Sorry for the delay in response. Please find the update below:

This bug was tracked through a bug ID FDWG-10922, which is now resolved with internal builds.

Scenarios were taken care of;

new drawing view creation using a template.
new projected view in drawing created by a template.
save & re-open then projected view creation.
the correctness of document setting status.

All the above scenarios are working fine now. Hopefully, you should see the fix in the upcoming Fusion update.

I shall try to keep you posted on the exact Fusion version of the bug fix.

We're a few Fusion updates further now, but i'm still struggling with above: my ISO template is still bugged by this issue (my Fusion version is 2.0.9642).

I have an ISO template with 3rd angle projection - which worked fine when I first set it up. This issue described above impacted me too, but unfortunately still has not improved at my end...

Attached 2 samples, cut from the same template: the sample with 3rd angle projection was from the drawing's issue date of Juli 2020, the sample with 1st angle projection was today's test result.

I had me a look at the work-around as noted above, but that doesn't help it seems. It's also my standard setting in the preferences: ISO with 3rd angle projection.

When creating a new drawing document using "from scratch", then that comes out correctly - but I'd really prefer to use my template & that has somehow flipped over from it's original configuration (ISO with 3rd angle) to ISO with 1st angle & I seem to be unable to find a way to modify it back from within the template. (If there is a way, please advise).

I was pleased to read that this had been dealt with & was looking forward to the Fusion updates as one of them would then solve this for me - but up until now, I'm seeing no improvement.

Has this been rolled out as yet? Is there something I need to change at my end?

I'd really like to have this solved - please advise.

Edit: I just went & created a new minimal template for ISO & 3rd angle projection: that works as intended & expected.

It would seem that I'd need to know whether my original template can be restored to normal functionality or that I'd to finish the minimal template to a full replacement?

Hi @harry.doldersum,

Sorry to hear you're still experiencing this issues. Since seeing your post last week I've asked the team to re-test the fix we released in January. And just to confirm, the January fix should have fixed your existing template -- there should be no need for you to create a new template.

Despite retesting, we have not been able to reproduce the issue. Regardless of the template / preference combination, both old and new templates are creating drawing views using the correct projection angle.

To help us get to the bottom of this, are you able to share your drawing template and a screen shot of your Drawing setup in Preferences? If you prefer, you can email it to me at andrew.de.leon@autodesk.com

I'm unfortunately unable to share the original version of the template, as by now I've proceeded to finish the replacement version - deleting the original after completion.

I've attached the preference settings to this message, I'm pretty sure these are unchanged from the day I first made my template.

FYI, the replacement template is again behaving as expected. 😊

Can you please provide more information about the properties setup and also the template which is causing this issue? The ticket mentioned above is fixed in January release.

Maybe it's a different case you are facing. But we can determine it only after looking at the data.
