Actually the file does contain the units information, see below. The online translators have no link to Fusion's defaults and use CM for some reason, but a bit odd the document settings are not used. Can you just send a 2d DXF? If you create a sketch in fusion then right click the sketch in the browser there's an option Save As DXF, this will export in the current units. Other option is use one of the local translators, STP, IGS or SAT.

Hi all.

as the tittle says, Yet another DXF issue.

Every time a design something, (most of my stuff is to to with laser cutting) and i convert it to DXF, The units shrinks x10!!!

so for example, my piece attached below, shows roughly 280mm on its widest part. But when sending it to the guys with the laser cutter they keep coming to me and saying 'are you sure this manifold flange is meant to be 28mm long?

now i know fusion doesn't export the type of unit (apparently) but it does export the units.

so in that theory they should of got a number that was 280 not 28.

can anyone explain why and whats going on, as i keep having to tell them to upscale it along with getting them to check diameters of the holes etc to cross reference my drawing to theirs!

i have loaded it into trueview and this show exactly the same issue, yet when i use the measure tool in fusion it show 280mm, and the parameters in document settings are set to 'mm'

Can anyone share this same experience or tell me how to prevent this?

added pictures below for reffernece

cheers

steve

It's definitely being exported as CM using File > export.

When opened as CM it's correctly ~280mm across.

So don't use the cloud translators (File > Export > DXF). The technical limitation is that the cloud translators have no way to read your display units. We've been pushing for a change to this, but it's a challenge brought on by the cloud translation that happens outside Fusion, and harder to fix than it sounds. Believe me, we'd have done it in the last 6 years if it was easy.

Do use the workflow that @HughesTooling shows, that'll do it right.

Perfect, thanks. i took a dxf download via the tab on the sketch page and opened it in true vue and as you rightly said its fine. there is obviously an issue with the browser based export.

will remember for future reference.

many thanks

steve
