How are we supposed to know what's wrong? You either need to add some screengrabs of the original or share the f3d file as well.

Here's what I see opening one of your DXF files, what's wrong with it?

Please don't attach pictures. There's an option Photos on the editor toolbar to embed them, please use this option.

hey mark. i'm having the same problem. my work has a plasma cutter we can use to do stuff for home. so i'm trying to cut out my last name "smith". i imported a pdf (from excel) then i sketched around the letters with the fit point spline tool, removed the pdf image and added an offset. the nesting program for our plasma is fast cam. once i export the dxf and it gets loaded into fast cam. there are gap in the corners and extra lines in odd places. i don't have a photo of this currently. any suggestions? this is also occurring when importing that dxf to other cad programs

Can you export the Fusion f3d file and attach here and I'll take a look. One problem that's come up a lot is a lot of shall we say low end cad programs can't read the splines Fusion creates.

yea no problem. not sure how to do that so this might not work. i guess i assumed fast cam was a decent program seeing it was supplied with the plasma cutter and its a payed product not open source.

Hi,

1. Fusion has no objections to the sketches
2. V-carve identifies errors in M, I and H > has been repaired (connected)
3. finally, I roughly aligned the letters and converted them into arcs/straight lines (tolerance 1/100 mm) > 1 sketch
4. exported as DXF and imported in Fusion

günther

yea cheers. doesn't really help my situation in the future? i'm trying to source the problem and how to fix in inside of fusion. or figure out if maybe its not a fusion issue but instead a fast cam issue. but with you saying v-carve identities some issues makes me think its the fusion exporting process?

No not a Fusion problem. First I exported each letter then reimported into a new design and all profiles are still closed.

Then I exported that single sketch that contained the imported letters, opened in Rhino and Rhino also closed all the curves into closed profiles. i've attached the Fusion design with the imported letters.

so i had a look at the the file you sent back. immediately i have noticed there isn't little black dots on the corners and points through the curve. I'm going to assume those black dots were problem points.

were there gaps in rhino when first imported? and rhino fixed it? thats what i took away from what was inside the red box. fast cam can do that but with this situation there was to many gaps for it to automatically fix.

I've also asked the forum about using fusion to produce the g code to save me always hassling the boss which should also fix this problem.

The black dots in the initial design are spline points not problems. When Fusion exports the splines they are converted from fit point splines to control point splines because DXF does not support fit point splines.

No I did not fix the curves in Rhino, they come in as individual curves, all i did was join them. If there were gaps they would not join. The Fusion export is not a problem, fusion reimports the curves without gaps and Rhino reads the file without gaps. There are a lot of CAD programs out there that can not read splines higher than degree 3, there are several degree 5 splines in your file, that might be your problem

If you go here and enter DXF in the search there are a couple of post processors for Fusion that output a DXF file. Looks like they can also do arc fitting if you enable smoothing in any machining ops you use. You'd probably want to use 2d contour with compensation off and all lead ins\outs disabled.
