Sketch pattern direction kinda sorta associative?

This clip shows a series of points being deployed along a line segment with a rectangular pattern. Then an end of the line segment is moved and the pattern does not adjust. This is violating my expectations because I had though the features selected to determine the axes of patterns were associative: if the direction line moves, the pattern should adjust. But maybe my expectations are wrong.

The odd thing, though, is that if you go back into the pattern dialog, all the points snap back to their proper positions along the line's new location. As if they were in fact trying to be associative but were just too lazy to actually do it proactively.

(I know the Measure for the extent is nonassociative - Fusion 360 uses that term consistently to mean "nonassociative".)

(Uh... there is a screencast here when I view this post in the editor, but I don't see it in the forum itself...)

Not sure this is a bug or just how the sketch engine works. But I would also expect this to live-update.

@jeff_strater might have some insight here.
