Hi everyone,

I'm a new user to Fusion. So far I have loved the program but one of the "buggiest" features that's constantly driving me mad is rectangular patterns.

After creating them, I sometimes need to modify the placement of the source material, and expect the rectangular pattern to change accordingly. Nothing fancy and I hope this is expected behaviour from Fusion. BUT, often it doesn't change and creates a problem like below. Then, I go and try to edit the rectangular pattern, and the preview shows where the repetition should actually be. But after confirming, even if I try changing something in the dialog, the generated placement is still wrong.

These two images are before and after clicking "Okay". I have modified the placement of the whole in the top right corner, shifted to the right. But the generated repetition still has in memory the old placement, somehow.

This has not been an isolated issue. Rectangular patterns are way more stable in Creo where I'm coming from.

I hope it is me who does not understand something and it is not a problem with the software.

Is there some kind of command to "update" or "regenerate" the component so it gets fixed, like in Creo?

Thank you for your help!

Simon

Hello All,

it's similar to me. When am creating rectangular pattern of component it is ok in preview. But after finishing editing the pattern the result is different. The components are arranged in different axes! Moreover, when I edit the pattern again, I don't change anything and just give OK, the layout is again different from the previous one.

Another problem with rectangular patterns right now. I had made a design with some wholes + rectangular pattern. I just opened it again, and the rectangular patterns had disappeared. I edit the feature, and then see the whole is not selected. I click on the whole, and then crash report appears. That has happened twice already. I am confused at the instability of these rectangular patterns + whole.

Here is the attached file: https://a360.co/3YvUwCb

Confirmed that the downloaded file, has one hole on top and bottom face,

Rectangular Pattern icons are not yellow.

Rectangular pattern has to be edited, selected feature cancelled and reselected.

Thank you very much for your quick help.

When cancelling the feature as you said it worked. I had the crashes when selecting the feature directly without deselecting/cancelling first. Well at least that solves the issue.

As for the first question, I still don't understand the problem.

Have a great Sunday,

Simón

@simon_precheur-llarena Can you provide a crash report number please?

When I open the second file, there are no missing holes. The only problem I find are un-defined features, like the location of the post that sticks out of the block. It's randomly placed, but I don't think that's affecting the model.

The first part, with the L shape does show the misplaced hole in the last created pattern. Editing the part by using the timeline marker to uncover each feature gets rid of the problem.

I'm going to pass this on to the team that works on patterns. In the meantime, I'll suggest a way to do this without patterns. There is no need to use the pattern command with such simple features.

Use a sketch instead:

The whole feature is contained in one sketch, which makes it easy to read, edit, and create.

Hole pattern is created by doing both at once

You are correct, an alternate workflow should not be needed if pattern was delivering consistent results. But it will take some time to fix this, so I put up a stable workflow that will get the job done without these problems in the mean time.

Thank you Dave and Phil for your quick and thoughtful support. Very pleased with the community.

Since there doesn't seem to be a perfect fix for the rectangular patterns, I will adapt my workflow as you suggest and draw the location of my wholes on sketches using construction lines instead. This is more flexible, convenient and has worked well.

I've edited the files so the current versions are fixed and no longer show the problems.

Thank you very much again!

Hello
I am the QA for the pattern feature.
I have been doing some testing in a development build of Fusion working on "Balti+moteur" and "Table+micrometrique" models. I wasn't able to reproduce the the issue in the Table+micrometrique model as the preview and execution appeared correctly.
When looking at the Balti+moteur, i was able to see the issue. This was easily fixed by changing the compute type from adjust to either optimised or identical, which both worked without issue. This is a known issue with compute types. I will look into this matter further and update the already existing ticket/s.

I got the same results when testing in the latest production build.
