Component dissappears when sketch edit requested

Hi. I have created a simple component which I activate and isolate. It has one sketch and a subsequent extrude.

When I right click on the visible sketch and click on Edit Sketch the whole component dissappears and only returns when I close the edit sketch box. What am I doing wrong. Thanks

Isn't the Extrude a child of the Sketch?

Child can't exist before parent.

I feel like I must be missing something as you already have an extensive Timeline.

File>Export and then Attach your *.f3d file here.

Edit: Can you reproduce this behavior in a new file with only one sketch and one feature?

Thanks for the quick response. I am a novice here. More used to SW.

My workflow was:

Create new component and name it
Draw sketch and dimension
Extrude sketch.
Join component to main assembly (hence the timeline)

I attach file as requested.

Like @TheCADWhisperer says, that is normal behavior. If you edit a sketch you in effect roll the timeline back to the sketch which is before the creation of the body so the body disappears.

Why can't you see your sketch?

This is the same as in SolidWorks. (I have been a CSWP for more than 10 yrs.)

I am obviously missing something here. I can see the sketch as part of the component but when I click on 'Edit Sketch' it all dissappears as in original screenshot video

@micromelt01 - I tried editing the sketch in the simpler model you shared. It seemed to work OK for me. Do you see behavior different than this on your simple model? The video you shared at the start of the thread is much more complex than this design.

Hi Jeff,

Your clip shows what I expected to see. When I activate and isolate the component within my assembly I see a different result. You can see this in the clip I have added in my first request to the forum. I can't see what I am doing wrong.

What happens if you double click the body, right click and activate then edit the sketch from the timeline? Also have you run a Compute All Ctrl+B just in case there are any errors that are not showing up.

Your timeline looks odd in the clip, it looks like all items are greyed out before and after the timeline marker. Also do you have Hide all inactive features enabled?

One more question, was the component created in the design or inserted then had the link broken? If it was inserted have you inserted the same design more than once?

@micromelt01 - thanks. Probably the best course at this point is for you to share the original design here, and record another screencast showing the workflow of just these steps:

open the design
edit the sketch in question

If there are other steps you do in the process, such as activating a component, include those as well. It is certainly possible that there is a bug here that is preventing the sketch from being visible, but I haven't yet been able to reproduce them on my side...

Thanks Mark,

The component was created from within the design and when I try to edit the sketch the timeline is not greyed out as in the screenshot but the whole component still disappears.

thanks, @micromelt01 - the easiest way is to share a public link to the design (see: How-to-share-a-Fusion-360-design , then copy that link and send it to me in a Private Message on this forum (hover over my name and choose "Send Private Message"):

Then, just paste the public link in that PM and I should be able to download the design from there. Thanks for your patience. This seems to be a strange one...
