Hello,

I am encountering a serious problem with the parts list in the drawing workspace. For some reason, I cannot make a parts list of the whole assembly, including sub assemblies. I tried it manually instead but then the balloons are still referencing to wrong items. Furthermore, if I mirror an item, it pops up in the parts list as a new item, even though it is a direct copy of another. This makes the parts list even more confusing. Could you please tell me how to create a proper parts list in fusion 360, and how it also properly adds copied and mirrored parts to the same part.

Kind regards,
Morgan

You are facing an issue related to ongoing work on Fusion drawings and some confusion about mirrored parts.

Sub-assemblies: Fusion drawings can only depict one level deep assemblies. Each assembly or sub assembly needs to be done in a separate document if you expect balloons and parts lists for each assembly/sub assembly.

The top level drawing will refer to a sub assembly as one item. Make a separate drawing document for the sub assembly. Call it out in the top level assembly. You then have a drawing number for that sub assembly which is called out in the parts list of the top level assembly.

Mirrored components: Those are not copies, they are unique parts because they have mirrored geometry. You would need two part numbers for those (and two molds and/or CNC programs, etc.) therefore they are shown as unique items in the parts list.

Copied components: Taking a simple case of having two of the same exact part in a design: If you copy and paste a component it will show up in the parts list as "qty 2" because there are two of them in the design.

Thanks and let me know if you have more questions.

Thank you very much for the reply and information. It has become clearer now that I need to think more beforehand on what I consider to be the main and sub assemblies.

Thanks for following up. I asked about this to the drawings team and what you want is on their radar, it's going to take a while to develop. Like many areas of Fusion, we are constantly improving and feedback like yours helps.
