Thanks very much. For some reason changing the cabinet depth parameter still leads to a disconnect with the placed hinges. In addition, each of the hinges seems to have different behaviors when adjusting the cabinet depth parameter.

If I understand correctly, you are saying to work with bodies until they are at a point where changes are no longer needed. At that point convert to components? Many of the videos I've watched seemed to emphasize creating components from the start. Is there a particular component I converted from bodies prematurely?

Thanks!

Paul

I've received great guidance here regarding placing a hinge on a door but am having difficulty with the hinge not adjusting to changes in a parameter. In particular, one of the parameters is cabinet depth. When I adjust that, the hinge stays put while the door moves to accommodate the new depth. Putting a rigid joint between the door and hinge doesn't seem to help. May be the way I positioned the hinges in the first place.

Cabinet with glass sides and door is attached.

Thanks!

Paul

You had a little mix-up in the Body/Components in this area of your Browser. Model is attached. You need to clean up your models by turning some things off every now and then to make it easier to understand what you are going. Also, personally, I do not think it is a good idea to create all your components at the beginning. Create them one at a time, as needed, activating them when editing to keep the features related to each component close to the component in the timeline. I think it makes for easier editing and troubleshooting.

Your parameter change is not related to the joint of the hinge, you have placed the hinge with a few Capture Positions, and that is not a recommended procedure in this Forum, is it? I think I remember a Joint Origin previously mentioned, but you don't have any of those.

In effect these Joints are held in place by these Capture Positions and should not be used for that purpose.

I would expect a hinge plate jointed to a piece of Glass, change the glass, and the hinge moves.

Might help..

I have attached a new model with a repaired bottom hinge. The top one worked just fine before. You are interrupting my statement about creating components wrong. What I recommend is to create your new Component when you need them using the New Component command, activate it and then proceed to create your sketches, bodies and features. When you need a new component repeat the process. I would never use the Convert Bodies to Components command unless absolutely necessary.

Thanks very much. I spent more than a few hours going over your timeline. Very instructive. You made a rigid joint between a hinge leaf and the hinge pin and rotated the hinge 90 degrees to the pin. How did you choose the points in the Move command to get the hinge to line up with the corner of the glass door just after revolute5? Was it using an inner edge in the hinge to the corner edge of the glass door?

The door side leaf on the upper hinge is grounded to its parent - what is the significance of that?

The video should answer your questions. If you will notice I do not use the "Move" command to place Joints, I use Origin Points to place the Joint. As I mentioned in the video, you did yourself a disservice by placing a Rest position on your hinges before the model was finished. This makes adding Joints much harder.
