Kyle,

Thanks for your suggestions. I looked at the company's suggestions for squeaking by with a lame graphics processor but none could really be implemented. A real IT guy examined my 2012 HP laptop and found that the Hard Drive read/write head would remain 100% busy for extended periods of time, though the disk was 3/4th free space. He recommended changing the drive to an Solid State Drive. That greatly sped up things. Loaded a fresh copy of Windows 10 and then a fresh download of Fusion360. But still it only got me to the point of Fusion360 refusing to open the drawing utility, more quickly.

A graphics up grade for this computer takes a mother board replacement, so, not worth it, according to a number of authors.

Thus, time for a new machine. I found a new HP preloaded with Windows 11 and having a real graphics card. And only $700 at that. Works great with Fusion; blindingly fast compared to my old HP. I have to guess that Fusion was constantly sucking in upgrades over the internet and eventually took in one that turned a horribly slow graphics processor into one that couldn't function at all.

Thanks again,

Bob

The behavior is just like Brittf posted in Oct of 2018 except that I haven't tried reloading Fusion as Brittf indicated that didn't fix it. Also, I have it on windows PC rather than Mac Apple:

do not get any error messages or warning. It just fails to launch the drawing.

I have two Macintosh computers both running the latest Apple system software (Version 10.14). The drawing function works on one computer but not on the other. I was able to do the drawing function on one computer and it would show up as a thumbnail at the bottom of the drawing function on the other computer. But when I clicked on the thumbnail, nothing. I tried to uninstall Fusion 360 and reinstall it and that did not solve the problem. I restarted my compute several times. The design and CAM functions work fine on the computer that the drawing function does not.

The attache screen shot is what I get on the computer that will not create the drawing. The thumbnail is a result of creating the drawing on a different computer. As you can see I opened the drawing on the computer that does not work and the drawing is not available in the center window.

Thank you.

Britt

Tags (0)

In Brittf's case the resolution appeared to be enabling Ariel font in the Mac font book. I don't see the equivalent utility in Windows10 PC. Is there such?

Appreciate any help, thanks,

Bob

Hi @bobkarnaugh

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble. There are a few things that you can try.

1) Clear your cache and see if this helps.

2) On your Windows PC, set up your graphics in Fusion to run in “high performance” mode

Please let us know how you get on.

Sorry you're experiencing this issue.
Please update your graphics driver (details in link below). If you still have issues, please have a look at this article, on setting up Fusion for to run in high-performance mode on your graphics setup.

Clint,
Thanks for the pointers. Clearing the brower cache did help clear up some of the problems with the drawing utility. After that it would show the normal dialog boxes, but still would allow an actual drawing to be made, nor the opening of an existing drawing. On selecting "high performance" mode; I should have mentioned that the laptop computer is near ten years old with a Radeon HD 6470M graphics card, which was sold by AMD 2013-2015, supposedly I have the latest update, 2015. No new drivers are available for this legacy product. There is no High Performance mode selection available, though windows device manager has a place where one can trade of power consumption for performance; but there is no election available. It seems, if I am to believe what I read, that the graphics unit is integrated in the mother board, and so, it is not a ready swap out. I also saw from checking out Fusion360 minimum system requirements that the equipment I have has gotten to be sub optimal, to say it euphemistically. Seems that it is time for a new computer. What disappointed me is that the computer had been working adequately with Fusion for years and then some how became inadequate. Could that be the result of Fusion upgrades arriving over the internet have finally made the system obsolete? Interestingly enough the design utility still works, though it is three dimensional and should be more demanding of a graphics processor than the two dimensional drawing utility.
Thanks,Bob

You may be able to install some additional C++ binaries, which could work. Mileage will certainly vary, but it's worth taking a chance, take a look here:
