Hard to explain my problem here. I'm sketching a port in a cylinder. The port has a hole in it. When I extrude it , the solid feature of the port passes through the shell wall but the hole in that port does not cut through the shell wall. So, after doing a circular pattern x 4, I end up with 4 ports that have blind holes in them and not the intended / desired through holes. Please see file for details.

That's a sectioned view of what I'm after. Here's an actual photo of the part, now broken during attempts to remove those hole supports as they turned out to be blind holes that stopped at the cylinder wall.

Yep, When you extruded the hollow block, you did not do another extrude to cut the cylinder with the hole.

That's only half of the fix,

Now that you have the hole drilled, the Pattern will have to be edited to be Features,

Extrude block, fillet and holes patterned as Feature, not just the body.

I don't understand the 2nd pattern at the end - testing?

You will need to combine all 5 bodies to one before exporting as stl.

Might help.....

I'll go back and give it another try as i did before but failed. This does not make much sense to me as that "hollow block" accepted the extruded hole, so why didn't the major shelled body ? When a part is drawn 2D in a sketch and it has a hollowed center core, I'd say the hole's failure to continue to be a cutting operation through any solids it is extruded through, might be a defect in the program logic. Why did the hole not cut through everything in it's path ??

The last step was my attempts at repairing. I do not believe i used features , so that may be the cure. I tried for hours using bodies and components, as I recall. I'll go back and see how FEATURES does.

First there is no bug,

The extruded block has a hole in it, you extruded it, no drama

You cant expect fusion to cut that hole if it is not selected, wasn't selected.

So to extrude the hole to cut the wall is a 2nd extrude.

Even if you selected the square and the circle for the first extrude, you have to do a second one, or hole command hole for the opening, two step process.

Pattern Features -

Easier to delete the first pattern - then start another one,

Set to Features, and then select the features that are making up the new body, click their icons from the timeline, Extrude, Fillet and hole / extrude cut which ever you did,

Set the rest of the particulars, and bang, four new bodies. Combine join them.

I had two problems : I did not think I needed to tell the software logically that I want that hole it carried through most of the extrusion, to also be carried through the wall. If I worked in a naval yard designing ships, imagine my surprise when none of the plumbing worked because, after drawing custom pipes and passing them through the hull and cabin walls all the holes in the pipe got plugged with whatever those walls were made of.

I do understand the great challenge for the good people at Autocad having to write quite a bit of code to figure these things out. We had to create the concept of NULL because zero or empty space, to a computer, is still something. I guess passing those solid ports through space meant the void in the middle gets stuffed with space but passing through solid material means the void gets stuffed with solid material.

My second problem was that once I got the originating hole punched through everything, the circle pattern wasn't picking up the hole as well, despite it appearing to be highlighted, in the same color as the solid part. I ended up getting 3 more ports but once again, they were blocked. A lot of screwing around before I managed to get the entire feature, hole and all, to be selected for replication.

It works. Thanks for your patience and help.
