Hi there,

I am working on a sheet metal component which i have designed in an assembly. At some point i have to use unfold to apply some fillets and cuts to the component and then refold it, otherwise i will end up with an unrealistic flat pattern.

On this point the problem occurs. when refolding the component, the component moves in the work space. Even when i tried to place the joints before the unfolding/folding actions in the timeline, i have tried several things, the best solution is to do all the design work and after refolding then apply some joints. Result looks good, but now it seems the component origins has shifted with using joints. When unfolding the component origin remains in the original position. This is very strange.

Now my question is: Is this a bug in Fusion 360, or am i doing something wrong?

component before unfolding.

Component after unfolding with fillets and cuts applied.

Component after refolding. It does not matter if joints are applied before of afterwards, i have done this afterwards to avoid error messages, but end up with weird component origin.

Component after using 4 revolute joints to position component in assembly (also could have used rigid joints), this step in my opinion is unnecessary because the first sketch of this component is made with references to the other components. And when i use joints before the unfolding/refolding actions i will end up with error messages in the joints because they are missing references.

Hope somebody can help my to find out what the problem is.

Kind regards,

Bart

Can you please go to ?Help > About, and find what build number you are running? It should say 2.0.XXXX, what are the x's?

Hi Phil,

first of all i have managed to creat a solution. but anyway, that the part is shifting across the workspace can't be good.

My solution was to pick a different stationairy reference in the unfolding feature. In the above mentioned issue i have picked the surface attached to the fuelrail and everything went haywire.

In my solution i have picked the leg of the bracket that is attached to the throttlebody. This is still weird because both throttlebody and fuelrail have joints and were fully "constrained" even before i started the design of the bracket.

thanks in advance!

Our buildnumber of fusion360: 2.0.7438

indeed it did. its a bit too late now since i have other sketches based off the old unfold that seem to get mangled but its good to know for the future. thanks! 🙂
