Yup, so if I do exactly what you do it's fine 95% of the time. Not 5%.

Same thing with 2 different designs. Let's say I have a toolcrib that I've been working on. Then I download a collet from GrabCAD. Upload it to Fusion. Insert it into the toolcrib design. Unlink it. Save the toolcrib. Then try and delete the collete. 95% of the time I can delete the collet. 5% of the time I can't.

This is important to understand. It has to do with the versioning system in Fusion. Say you have 2 designs, A and B. A is an assembly and B is a part. You insert B into A and save A. That creates version1 of A. Work continues on for a while, now A is up to version5. You decide that you no longer need part B in A, so you open version5, delete B from A and save version6. Yes, it is true that version6 of A no longer references B. But, version1-version5 all still reference B. Fusion has the ability to "promote" an old version. So, you could go into A's history, and promote version4 (thereby creating version6). B is back inside A, and the reference is still live. The version6 scenario is likely the situation that you are in with this design.

What is really needed is a way to "prune" unneeded back versions. This does not exist today. The only way to get a "clean" version history is to copy the project by downloading/re-uploading it, or using Save As to create a new version of A (newA) that has only version1, then deleting the old A. Then, you can delete B.

As soon as I insert something into a new design I unlink it and save. Every single time. First thing I do.

not the experience I have. If I make sure not to save before I do the Break Link, I can successfully delete the referenced component. See the attached video

Hi @FrodoLoggins , If you can share logs from a session where this fails, we should be able to track down what is going on. Can you keep an eye out for this happening and respond with a log from that day?

Thanks,
