Started working with distributed modeling using the new edit in place feature. Reached for the Align Tool that's normally in the Modify drop-down menu only to discover that it's not available while in the linked component. The Joints appears to be greyed out, as well. Am I missing something? Is it not possible to align/join bodies and components within Edit In Place workspace? Thanks for any thoughts!

Steve

The Edit in Place tool is used only a a shortcut to edit a linked component. While you are in this function, you are NOT in the assembly file so you would not need the Align or Joint tools so they are not available. While in the state it is just like editing a single component so why would you do not need the two commands you spoke of. If you can describe a situation, during an Edit in Place operation, where you could use either of these commands please let the Fusion 360 community know.

@stevewQ6S8M - Support for Joints in Edit in Place is being added now - it was a little difficult, so was not in the original release. @jhackney1972 - this is needed in case the in-place design is, itself, a collection of components - you may want to create a joint between those components. But, yes, you should not expect to create a joint with components not in the current edit target.

I'll check on whether Align is part of this next update and get back to you.

[edit] unfortunately, Align is not part of the work to support Joints in EIP. That will have to come later. We'll get to it eventually... Sorry not to have a better answer

Jeff, thanks for the reply!

Good to hear that it's something that you'll be working on. Do you have any idea about when Joints and Align will be released?

Best regards,

Steve
