I have been trying to create an arc (+- 15 deg) with 29 holes spaced 1 degree apart. First I tried creating a circular pattern with points. In trying to do so, I could not select the point either by clicking on the point or the description of the point in the sketch listing. Your information says that a circular pattern can be created with faces, bodies, features and components. Is a point excluded? I had no trouble creating a circular pattern of points with Autocad. Then I tried to create a pattern from a cylinder that went through the body so I could make a series of holes. In performing the circular pattern, I could select the cylinder and it started to create the arc but came back with the following error statement: One or more pattern instances could not be intersected with the original body.
Try adjusting the pattern settings, or changing the selections.

The original cylinder as well as the cylinders that would be created would go completely through the original body so I have no idea what is wrong. Furthermore, I see no reason why the cylinders have to intersect anything. Again, I had no trouble doing this in Autocad. I realize Autocad has some very powerful features but it can be extremely frustrating to perform even simple tasks.

Thanks for your response. I've attached a plate that I created this morning that demonstrates my problem. On one end of the plate is a point and on the other two cylinders spaced 1 degree apart. As before I could not make a circular pattern of points. At the other end, I could not make an arc of 15 degrees with the cylinders spaced 1 degree apart. As you can see from the figure, there is ample distance between the two cylinders in order to do so. In contrast, I could make a circular pattern about the y axis of cylinders with greater spacing (e.g, 10 degrees apart) so the question is specific to creating a pattern of bodies with small angular spacing. The other issue is can you make a pattern of points. I realize I could achieve the desired result by rotating a cylinder 1 degree at a time (as I did with the second cylinder) however I think these tasks should be easily doable in Fusion 360.

Hi,

points are sketch elements.
As such, they can be arranged in a circular pattern at any distance in a sketch, as shown in the screencast.

günther

Thanks, I was able to create a circular pattern based upon your response. I think the means for doing so, however, is very non-intuitive. In this case, you have to first select the point and click edit sketch. When you do so a table of options titled sketch palette comes up, however circular array is not listed. Second, sketch is part of the design tab that includes bodies, faces, etc. Since they are in the same tab, a reasonable assumption would be that the same procedures used for bodies, etc. would also be used for sketch objects. Hence, I would assume that when I call for a circular array, one of the options would objects, however it only lists faces, bodies, components and features. Why not also include objects so people don't waste alot of time trying to perform such a simple task? I think Fusion 360 has a lot of very nice features like simulation, however the CAD part needs simplification so that there is not such a frustrating learning curve. I have been using Autocad for years and frankly it is much easier to learn and much faster to use.

Hi,

1. arrangements for sketches (1.) can be found under the sketch tools in the "Create" tab. Body/Face/Features/Components (2.) arrangements under Solid/Surface in the Create tab.

To further statements of you I only want to say that you should spend some time to understand the real conditions before you make conclusions and comparisons to other applications.

günther
