This is interesting. Trying to do it as an Export which says that it uses the cloud based converter fails also. I don't get it...I've never had an issue like this. It's happening with every project and component/body so it's not an issue with this model.

I'm getting the error below. It is happening on all of my files. I see that this seems to be a periodic problem that users run into. This is the first time that it has happened to me and I've made 100's of STL's with Fusion 360. I've tried closing and re-opening the file, closing and re-opening Fusion 360, restarting my computer, clearing cache data, I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Fusion 360. It happens both with binary or ascii selected. Someone had suggested on one of the posts that the component or body needed to be moved in the y axis so I tried that but again no joy. Is this a service that runs on the local machine or is it a cloud service? Is it currently down? Please advise. Thanks

There are 2 ways to make STL files - one is a slow cloud export, the other is a local operation that's fast.

Which one are you using ?

I assume that I'm using the local version. I'm just right clicking the component or body in the design tree and selecting "Save As STL".

I have had this error pop up if I am also in the process of saving a model. I only ever use the right click and Save as STL option. Fingers crossed it hasn't happened under any other circumstances.

Well I figured out the problem. I was trying to save it to a director that wasn't available. I use GoogleDrive as my main file storage and you can't save anything to /volumes/GoogleDrive. You can only save to directories within /volumes/GoogleDrive so I have a directory that I ALWAYS save my files within called /volumes/GoogleDrive/MyDrive but for some reason I didn't click into that directory this time. All is well now.

It might be worth filing this as a "Bug Report:" - the error message they gave you simply said "failed" when it *should* have said "Could not write to target folder /volumes/GoogleDrive/"
