topic Error: Split2 Compute Failed No intersection between target(s) and split tool in Fusion Support Forum

I've been trying to get a split body to work for a simple shape and I've tried so many ways to split the body with two surfaces but it always fails. If I select one surface and use extend, it is able to slice the body, but when I include both surfaces, I get the error. I was able to get the body split by splitting each face and then stitching all the faces up to create a solid body.

It seems like the split body should work, but I can't find information as to what the error is complaining about. Any help would be appreciated.

I've included the file, to replicate the problem, select the Body1 and under Solid->Modify->Split Body. Select Body(3) and Body(4) as the splitting Tools, select Extend Splitting Tool and press Ok, then you'll get the error.

Cheers

Michael

Your process will work one at a time, as a workaround,

Split the cylinder into 2 first with XZ plane

Split front body with body 3

Split rear body with body 4

Combine the two left hand bodies and then the 2 right hand bodies.

Pics with the timeline marker will demo.

Thanks Dave for the work around, I appreciate the effort you went through to document it. I found a work around by using split faces instead of split bodies, what I can't understand is why the split body doesn't work when by all circumstance it should, it seems like a bug to me which was why I created the post.

It seems to me that it should work, and I tried many different variations of the cutting surface and I couldn't get it to slice correctly.

There doesn't seem to be a way to diagnose what the issue is and therefore no way to make it function correctly.

Thanks

Michael

I think it is that - attempting to cut one body with 2 cutters to result in 2 bodies.

If you use a single cutter for the result it will work,

(Lofted the inside edges of the two cutters and stitched.)

Limitation not a bug.

My original design had 3 surfaces that I had wanted to use as a cutting tool, I took it down to get to a simpler version with just two surfaces to cut through the body. Would the suggestion be to create 3 planes so that you can use a single cutter?

Thanks

Michael

Planes - or cutter surfaces, I believe your limits are getting exasperated by cutting a cylinder, so cuts have to penetrate the walls twice. Split body needs the result of additional bodies.

You may need one body patterned

Might help...
