I dont know how to make another component on a face without it separating the sketch into 2 seperate components

I am trying to sketch a component onto the side of a board and when I draw the line to complete the sketch, the sketch gets separated into 2 separate components. How do I sketch something on a face so that it is one whole component?

thanks for posting! By default, Fusion 360 auto project geometry on an active sketch plane, you can disable this behavior by navigating to your preferences, and uncheck the setting: Auto project geometry on active sketch plane:
