I did use placement and flip to obtain what I needed, it's just how it is currently working is wrong by all means, take any vector program like illustrator as example.

If the default option is placement of text over a path it shouldn't start with a mirrored text under a path, WYSIWYG rules are completely broken here.

I really wonder how development guys are ok with this??

I'd have to see the design in question.

Unlike Fusion, a vector art program doesn't contain the concepts of positive and negative 3D plane directions. If Illustrator has 3D planes to work with, can you add text on the back of the plane?

If Fusion is picking a default orientation for the sketch text that is wrong based on the positive vector normal to the plane, glad to have a look at the design and send to the development team that worked on it. This feature is new, and may have some surprising behavior. Any examples you have, please submit an f3d and let us know what you expect.

Hi all, thanks for your help.

@Phil.E I've prepared an example file here: https://a360.co/2TsYFEf

if you create a text on path from top or bottom plane everything is working as expected.

but if you create a text on path from the front then is where is confusing, because the text is mirrored and upside down, and you have to play with the options to obtain what you need.

But if you create the same text from the back plane everything works as expected again, so it's just the text on path on the front plane that isn't working as it should.

Also as said by @g-andresen having the option to properly position the text along the path would be great

thank you all

Thanks for the file. This confirmed what I was thinking.

A Fusion sketch exists in a 3D environment, that's the big difference you are seeing between Fusion and Illustrator or other vector graphic programs.

In the example you provided, sketch text on the XZ plane appears to be backwards to you. This is because you are looking at the back side of the plane. The labels on the view cube do not correspond with the origin axis directions. For instance, what does "right" or "left" mean in relation to the XYZ origin? Same is true for the "front" side of the view cube. The Front face of the view cube is the negative, or "back" side of the XZ plane. (if you don't like that you can always swap front and back on the view cube by editing it).

As always, we are interested in your thoughts about how to improve the expected direction of sketch text for you. The reason there are flipping controls is to handle the various directions of planes you might sketch on. If that needs improvements, please let us know what you think.

Thanks again.

Just to be clear, the names on the view cube are not consistent with the positive/negative directions of your origin vectors.

The left side of the view cube also looks at the back side of the origin plane.

Unless you only design flat objects that face the negative vector direction of the Y axis, it's possible to end up using sketch text on any number of an infinite variety of planes in your model. The tool is built to allow flipping for that reason.

I totally understand your request, and it's been acknowledged by the sketch team as an area for refinement. I'm only explaining this so you (and others) understand why it's happening, and how to work with it. It's not random, or buggy. It's just the way Fusion is currently designed, to allow anyone to sketch on any plane, at any time, and get the text to turn in the direction they want it to go.

I wanted to just in and say thanks to you and others for the feedback. I agree we can improve here.

I have added it to list of items to review and improve, with other requests like persisting values in the dialog per session; so once you have found the correct alignment configuration for your workflow you don't have to reset it with every use of the command.
