Hi,

I have been working with Fusion 360 for a couple weeks now. Watching a lot of videos and reading the forums. I have seem some posts similar to this one, but the solutions there don't seem to be working for me.

I am trying to use Chamfer to round the edge between to perpendicular surfaces. It was successful where the surfaces were longer and smother. However, when the design has more sharper corners and/or curves I get an error "The fillet/chamfer could not be created at the requested size. This might be occurring at the ends of the selected edges."

In the attached picture you can see the line that seems to be giving me issues. There another attached picture with some of the areas working. And a third picture of another drawing that worked fine (but had longer straighter lines).

Basically, I am trying to have a gradual slope up from the base to the side all the way around the object. The slope needs to be the same all the way around the object and I would like the entire base to be covered by it. If there is a better way to accomplish this, I am open to it.

Thanks.

Without your model, it is impossible to guarantee this is the issue but from the pictures I think your issue comes from the fact your have two tight of a transition between various sides. Please attach your model so the forum users can give you a better answer or possibly find a solution. If you do not know how to attach your model, open it in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save it to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section of a forum post to attach your file.

First of all, please start using Capture Design in your Fusion 360 modeling. You will have a great deal more success. I have attached my solution to your situation. As I suspected, the outside profile you are trying to chamfer is too tight on the inside radius of "all" edges as a unit. I attacked it by creating an extra body which I used to create the chamfer edge. I could not pick up your chamfer size very easily (due to your direct modeling) so I created my best guess. You can change it by modifying the indicated two timeline features. Model is attached.

Thank you. That is what I am looking for. However, I am having a hard time following how you did it. Sorry, still a newbie. Would it be possible to provide some more details so I can recreate it (and learn from it)?

Sure, take a look at the Screencast. Always remember, my method may not be the best or the fastest, but it gets the job done. Whenever you model you shoot for a final solution and then learn to do it faster and easier as your experience grows. Do not let anyone say you modeled it the wrong way but allow them to give you a "better and faster" method for the next time you model something similar. To that end, make sure you turn on Capture Design and leave it on. There are only a few cases where you must turn it off.

Hi,

I tried to recreate this step-by-step. Everything went fine expect one item. In the video when you select sweep and then select the top corner for the path and then select each segment around the object - when I did that it selected the corner all the way around in one click. Then when it runs, the edge does not go all the way to the wall in some places. Please see the attached picture. Any Idea on what I did wrong?

You recognized your error but did not act on it. Your extrusion up from the base place included your offset of the wall profile but you also picked up some surface geometry also giving your the rounded inside corners. If you just extruded the offset profile, the edges of the extrusion would not have been rounded and your would have to select every edge for the sweep path. You model updated is attached.
