I prefer using 2D contour, it gives me option to sneak up on obstacle by use of tangential extension, so if i use higher value for tip offset, tool will drop down to have shank just above the upper chamfer edge, then I can drive it to obstacle and bring it back until shaft clears the obstacle by some value that eliminates hand detailing of chamfer.

chamfer clearance

I'm working on learning CAM and have an easy question on the chamfer clearance. I understand this value in the passes tab to be the distance to stay away from areas of the model you don't want cut. I ran the default which is .05in and it worked out as expected. This time I wanted to cause a problem or at least get closer to some areas of the model so I set the clearance to zero. The program still stayed safely away from the part instead of running it over and causing a problem. Attached is the file. Is there a way to cause a failure or at least get ever so closer to the part? Thanks. Below is the picture with chamfer clearance set to zero.

I figured 1 part of my questions. It appears when you set your 'chamfer clearance' it is calculating the toolpath assuming you are setting the 'chamfer tip offset' to the full depth of the tool. If you move the tool up higher throughout the cut then the toolpath gradually gets further away from the model than the setting you entered into 'chamfer clearance'. Below is a visual representation of zero chamfer clearance, but two drastically different heights for the tool. My only question now is I guess you would need to use '2d contour' to crash the tool into the part. It seems 2d chamfer just will not allow you to run into another part of the model. If someone knows otherwise I'd like to hear how. Thanks.
