Project: https://a360.co/3gfIFz6

In this project I have a pocket toolpath which I cannot convince to follow the selected contour and stop going right through the radius.

In the same project, a contour toolpath create as a derived operation from pocket, so having the same selected chain, manages to keep the desired trajectory.

Why and how can I fix the pocket?

Sorry, I don't have an answer, but wanted to add to your issue:

While playing with your operation, I added a "stock contour". The result is seen below, it cuts off any radius, making a straight line between start and end point of every single radius. Seems like a rather major bug.

My guess would be because that face is on a slight angle and not perpendicular to the wall of those edges and raduis that it is causing some type of issue calculating the toolpath. Try using 3D adaptive instead, it worked fine on my end.

Ha! I had not caught that draft angle. However, this being a 2d operation, shouldn't it be only looking at what you select? Meaning, if the Z axis is picked from the same face as the pocket profile, I believe it should still work... no? Because 2d operation do not look at the solid model.

Not sure exactly why its doing that. I don't use 2D pocket much. My guess is its doing something fishy with that draft angle. Could possibly be a bug. Very strange how it just skips every radius.

I will first ask; You have your Setup with one Z orientation, but then you are using Tool orientation to reposition that Z. Are you using a rotary axis to access that face properly?

Secondly, is this an imported model? Do you know what the initial file was created in?

The part (large and more complex) is machined on a 5-axes machine and
eventually I got this "working" by leaving a 2mm radial stock on the pocket
which I then removed with the contour. It just took me a lot of time to try
things out and figure that the contour behaves correctly.

Given the angle of the wall I was expecting some of it will be cut when
finishing the pocket but along the radius, not through it.

The project was started from a STEP, probably exported from SolidWorks.
This bit is just a fragment of it, cut using Fusion's split body.

@Anonymous The question is not how to design a more machinable model but rather why the two operations behave so differently with the existing one.

It appears that we may have this fixed internally. We should see that fix in a not-too-distant update 🙂
