Hi all

Another day, another lathe ID profile frustration.....

I used to get these issues with the old profile tool path and / or the spun profile thing, but no matter what I do I just can't seem to get the ID profile to work for this part. It will not clean up the smaller ID, see attached screen grab and F3d file.

Any help really appreciated.

Many thanks.

Andy

For some reason, setting your Inner Radius to "Model ID" isn't working. If we add a small offset value (-.1mm) to that, it DOES work, which is odd....

Thanks Seth, for me this offset only works for the finishing pass, the roughing pass is still not working.

I've even tried using diameter and face selection, no joy. Also saved model as a stp and importing, same result. Can't believe this can be that hard!

If you set inner radius to model, tool will cut up to that barrier and stop. If you want to include model inner feature in toolpath, as stated, you must provide small value away from it, this gives tool somewhere to go at the end of toolpath, retract amount away from completed cut.

One thing related to this is facing part using boring bar and continuing to machine internal profile. There are times when you want single tool to hold depth from face to multiple steps along internal profile as means of holding precise tolerance and to avoid deviation between parts due to different tool wear between turning and boring tool.

So, if you want to face part using boring bar you must set front marker away from model top by some distance, if you set it to model face, boring bar will not include facing move.

From that perspective this behavior is no odd at all, it's the way it works.
