We are working on getting our ITAR compliance and fusion 360 is not compliant due to items being saved on the cloud. Why doesn't fusion 360 just make a preference to "save everything locally" I cant imagine it would be that hard. As it stands I am likely going to drop fusion 360 because it it isn't compliant.

I was told months ago they were "working on it"

It's not that an offline model is difficult to implement, because it's not. An offline model doesn't align with the overall goal of Fusion 30, in creating software that offers a fully integrated and seamless design and manufacturing experience.

On the ITAR front; there is work on-going, but I'm not at all qualified to speak on that, so I'll leave it to someone with authority to chime in on.

I know this will not be what you want to hear, but we had a meeting with a security guru from Autodesk a few weeks ago about the exact same concern. Although not specifically about ITAR because we have no intention of going there, it was part of the discussion, because if Fusion was ITAR compliant, it would bring in a lot of confidence about its online security. The answer that we were given, was that there is no ITAR being worked on, and neither is there any plans to do so. There are plans to bonify the security through some other compliances, but not ITAR. Here is a link about security, compliances, and other online issues:

https://www.autodesk.com/trust/overview

Read about compliances and security (top tabs) in particular.

Now, don't take my word for it, do get a meeting organized with their security staff, and get the answer directly from them please. Did you buy your Fusion through a reseller or directly from Autodesk? The meeting was organized by our reseller, and I was quite impressed that they were able to get us a meeting with a security staff (high level). I can say that security is taken very seriously, and it will continue to improve, just not ITAR I was told.

EDIT: He did tell us "never say never" (ITAR), just that right now, there is no plan for it. Also, no plan for saving on local servers, it will remain in the cloud, and that was a more definitive "NO" to building our own local "cloud" if you will.

My thoughts are that Autodesk would prefer to have it's customer operating in aerospace, defense and security sensitive industries use the Product Design and Manufacturing Collection. I would much rather be able to save everything locally on my machines and manage it on site via Inventor for example. The problem that I run Into is that I do not need all of the other products that are included in the PD&M package. If I could get a subscription for Inventor with HSM I would change over right now. As far as I know they do not offer individual subscriptions to the product I would prefer to use and at a price point of over $250 a month, the value isn't there for me because I would most likely never use anything in the package other than Inventor CAM. So paying for a bunch of bloat marketed as a value isn't a value unless you are going to use all of the available content.

Hehehe, I did tell my reseller exactly what you just said about the manufacturing collection (we have and use that primarily), and his answer was that all this other stuff is given free! hahahahaha! Basically saying that if we wanted only Inventor and Inventor CAM it would be the same price. Really, we came from NX, so the manuf. collection is pretty cheap in comparison, and since we use the CAM everyday, it is still good value for us. It always depends on what you need and how much use you'll get out of it.

I know I could contact the support link you provided but I know what the answer will be "oh were working on it". In reality it is just sating verbiage with no action, similar to when I report issues. I am trying to raise awareness because the way things are going, I will be forced to drop fusion, and I know a number of shops that are in the same situation as myself. We started using fusion, but then have to use a different software because we are trying to go after profitable markets that require specific data security. It wouldn't be that hard and they would increase/ retain their paying customer base. I have been an advocate for fusion for years but they are falling short when I need them.

It's never been in the plans for ITAR, as far as I know. Anyone using Fusion for CAM "should" have known that going in. If it happens, it happens. You can always File > Export and save to local folder, if you find yourself moving into ITAR work before finding software to replace Fusion.

I should clarify some details here as well -

Our cloud products will not work in ITAR compliant environments currently. ITAR compliance is a process that the customer certifies/owns, not Autodesk. We won’t certify a product as ITAR compliant.

We have recognized this a big gap for a lot of customers and are looking into it. There is no commitment to deliver a solution for it, to be clear.
