Adaptive Turning Error

Hi All,

I've enable the preview feature adaptive turning and haven't been able to get it to work, has anyone else had success or similar issues?

I setup my adaptive turning (I'm somewhat guessing since it's new) and I cannot generate a toolpath, I almost always get the error "An unexpected error occurred" and occasionally a CAM kernel error.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the example. I’m able to get that to generate and if I switch tools it still works but I’m unable to generate toolpaths on my own parts 🤔

I want to try drawing the same part as the example to see if that works but I’ve not had time yet

Are you trying to use the adaptive turning toolpath on an internal feature like an internal groove? If so there is a known issue with that which is being worked on currently. If not, i'd like to see what is happening if you can export and attach your project please?

Hi Mat,

It's all external on this part, I've even tried simplifying the geometry. I've been trying to use it on the Titans of CNC rocket parts.

I've attached my simplified Titan-85L.

I'll be honest, i have no idea why it isn't working on your pc. All i have done is select the adaptive toolpath, select the tool you were using, change the stock limit for front and back to "open" (same as what you had selected in your original toolpath), hit OK and it has generated the toolpath. I've attached the project so hopefully you are able to access it and see the toolpath on your end. Have you got any updates to install? Might be worth closing fusion and re-opening or even restarting your pc?

That's super weird. As far as I'm aware I'm up to date and I've restarted plenty of times since the issue arose. Your toolpath works on my PC, it's just generating my own that's an issue. Oh well, hopefully it's fixed in a future update.

Maybe one other thing to try would be disabling the feature preview, possibly close fusion, then re-open and re-enable the feature preview? Not sure if you have done that already but that might do something hopefully?

Also you say you can see the toolpath i created, have you tried messing with the parameters on my toolpath like optimal load and see if it calculates it on your pc?

I opened your original file and tried to change few settings in tool definition and operation, nothing worked.

I then closed the file, reopened it and without changing a single variable in it, I started new Adaptive grooving operation using same tool with all original settings.

Key seems to be in lowering value of optimal load given that tool size in combination with lead in and lead out restricts tool from accessing groove.

As I lowered the value each time, I got tool path with warning flag, value of 1 mm produces tool path without warning flag.

I've disabled and enabled the feature, no change 😞 If I edit the toolpath you've created, it updates fine. For some reason it's the initial generation my PC is just unable to do.

Regardless of the settings, I still get an error (not a warning) and no toolpath is generated. At this point I'm fairly sure it's an issue related to my PC.

I have yet to see any case of not being able to run same file on 2 laptops and 1 desktop PC, all up to date, all having adequate or overkill hardware and running Windows 10.

I gave up on MAC when updating became more of a nuisance then I cared to put up with.

Are you running something on edge of acceptable, still on Windows 7, or some other odd scenario with issues beyond repair?........ may be time to talk to Santa.😁

My laptop is certainly not old or lacking in power. It's a Lenovo Thinkpad T495, its a quad core Ryzen pro laptop with 16gb of RAM and I'm running the most up to date version of Windows 10.

It may be a bug that's only effecting the AMD architecture though. The only other PCs I have access to are Intel.

My Lenovo T400 refuses to die, optimized to the limit and able to run Fusion but integrated Intel graphics are a nuisance so had to move on.

You may be on to something in regards to AMD processor, long time ago I had sporadic issues with other software compatibility and decided never to buy another computer with anything other than Intel processor.

I don't have any specific case in favor of one or the other, just never experienced some of the issues again.

I reloaded your original file from December of last year, hit "regenerate" and the result is in the screenshot.

Followed by creating new operation with reduced optimal load and lead in / out values, once again tool path is generated.

Now, I see no change in status of your original file or what effects ability to generate toolpath,.... so how does new Fusion update solves the issue on your computer but not on mine?

Well the original issue was that I couldn’t generate adaptive turning paths at all. I can now make new adaptive toolpaths.

I can’t just click generate on the broken one and it work, but I can create new ones.

Were you able to start new operation with lower optimal load and lead in / out values before?

The point I am making has to do with tool size combined with lead in / out values being larger than groove width which prevented the tool from being able to get inside grove.

Previously the loads and things made no difference. There was no parameters that I could set that would give me any toolpath at all. Now I can just click adaptive roughing and a toolpath is generated.
